Whoa, that "Pickup Truck" ad for Oly is a gem.

Anyone recognize the singer? I have a feeling her career went considerably further.

The voice-over sounded familiar, reminding me of the spectacularly subtle, highly persuasive "Morning in America" spots for Reagan in 1984 (hey, I'm on the other side, but I know effective advertising art when I see it).

So I Wiki'd up that campaign, I found its narrator (who was also their creator) was Hal Riney, who (1) is from Longview, and (2) at the apparent time of the beer ad was with BBDO SF. Same guy, hmmm? The parallels in motif are notable. (It predates Chiat/Day and the "Artesians" campaign.)

Um, I really don't know. Your comeback implies it should be obvious.

Oh, I found that narrator's voice again in http://www.seattlehistory.org/av_files/fabsounds.mp3 described as "A mid-1960s audio postcard from Pacific Northwest Bell" on http://www.seattlehistory.org/col_av.cfm

No...I don't know either...I was just curious if you did. She does have a sound that would have been big at the time!

Gread thread!

Legendary stuntman and actor, Richard Farnsworth, played the "Artesian Gardner" in the Oly spots. I loved his characters.
