Why do people just start a topic and leave nothing but a link to some biased website?

How about you have an opinion on the matter and stop waiting for Herb to come in here and give you one.

Hey it is a straight-forward new story quoting Shrub. The news site that is biased is Fox, because they know Shrub looks stupid with such a quote.

Lucky for him, in 50 years, unless we still have troops in Iraq, this war will be just a footnote little studied, just as the Korean War is almost forgotten.

The vets from this war will be in their 70s and will be ashamed to talk about how they wasted their young years.

Big time!

War helping, rather than hurting the economy. Well, that's an interesting one!

Maybe just start there huh?

IMHO, the economy is bad because we have shifted our efforts from producing real goods to services and financial. (virtual goods, ideas, etc...) That shift has put us in a spot where the petrodollar really depends on all the oil producing nations using it.

Iraq started it, Iran is starting it now, and they are using Euros and that hits us really hard.

Frankly, I think the GOP knows this and it's a big part of the internal justification for all they have done. --and it's good for the economy in that context too!

IMHO, the bigger picture, as in how we got here, and more importantly, where we really should go from here, goes back to Reagan really.

Prior to that, there was grumbling about free market this and that, but the New Deal was in place and doing well for us. Our manufacturing was strong, meaning we could eat our own dog food, so to speak.

Breaking that down meant better growth for companies, adding consolidation into the mix meant even more, but it comes home to roost sooner or later.

IMHO, it's coming home right now.

Given it's very highly likely W, buying into the GOP crap and being raised within the post Reagan culture, doesn't know any different, it's safe to say he probably does believe he's helping us out.

(Yeah, that's a nice way to say I've settled on him just being stupid in lieu of being evil, not caring, etc...)

Anyone else wanna just post up on this one! It's full of fodder, happy fun times man!

How does euro's going up hurt us?
It causes import to be more expensive, so we import less, and makes out goods cheaper, so we sell more .

I Grok what he is doing. Read the title of the thread, then read the article. After reading the article I sort of wonder if he does indeed believe in fairy tale's. This is slightly better than the usual Herb drop and run crap but I agree that a simple sentence with the link would be appropriate.

The petrodollar is part of the strength of our currency. It used to be backed by gold, then was backed by our ability to produce, and more recently was backed by it's trade value and trust.

If oil moves to the Euro, there is a lot less reason to carry dollars. If that happens, then part of the value is lost, unless we compensate with other value adds.

Ask around. Oil moving to the Euro is a very big deal for us.
