It is possible.

Doesn't feel likely. But him saying that it will happen, you know, usually means the opposite it true.

Selected, not Elected in 2000.

Oh well. Let him talk it up. McCain has already chained himself to the "surge".

Iraq is not a popular policy.

Change is the major theme. The same old same old isn't gonna win the deal.

Look at the youth turnout. Heck, Texas is seeing 3:1 Democrats voting even.

Get Bush out there, pound it up. I think it's a good thing.

But the surge has worked. Granted, our presence their will not "work" long term, but violence is down, and their government is making progress. What we probably agree on though is that it's time to get out. Our involvement in Iraq needs to be over.

Don't expect democrats to give our president and troops any credit.

They talk a good game, but when it comes down to it, any good news in our war against terror is something the left hopes to avoid discussing.

Like I've said, a little sabre-rattling from a bad guy like Kim Jong Il or OBL is all that's necessary for American voters to realize how important it is to have a steady hand at the wheel, not a trainee. And that applies as much to Mrs. Clinton, who used our military men to serve hors d'oevres in the white house.

" But the surge has worked."

Great. Then let McCain start campaigning on bringing the troops home yesterday then. He'd get my attention if he'd talk a bit more realisitic and less, you know, oogy boogy.

Actually, I take that back. He doesn't talk that way so much. I could have just deleted that - but no. I said it. Now I take it back.

POOF!

That's a bad habit I need to work on.

But if everything is going so swimmingly, then less " 100 years " banter from him may help.

"But the surge has worked."

Not according to the latest Rolling Stone (yep, a liberal rag). There are some things that are going unreported indicating that as soon as we pull back things will worsen. The Iraqis are nowhere near ready to run their own country, even in places where there are no insurgents.

The big business of war is the GOP's bread and butter these days.
McCain can only rally his base with a pro-war stance. Bush has been a spend and no tax president with little attention to some major problems in this land, and the more McCain embraces it, the smaller his chances in November become.

The media would like you to believe there is a real contest come November. They want you to stay glued to the tube, keep reading the papers and blogs, etc. Frankly, the voter turnout in the primaries indicates that the country's dissatisfaction with the way things are will trump any campaign rhetoric. This next election will give the Democrats a mandate. Things WILL change.
After 12 years of GOP domination in the Congress, look what happened in '06. More and more people are understanding what is going on, and aren't going to vote for more of the same. The greed and avarice of the Bush administration will finally be the GOP's undoing, and not a day too soon.

The only way Republicans will retain the White House is if Shrub declares martial law, and refuses to leave office next January.

No.

All that need happen is some nut job foreign leader to cause problems. Imagine if Putin gets nasty, or if Mushareff refuses to leave office and some terrorists grab his WMD's. Voters will want a strong defense leader in office, pronto. In other words, a republican.

Considering that this POS POTUS has been 100% wrong about almost everything the last 7 years, I'm feeling pretty good about this prediction.

Well, if there is one thing the Resident President has gotten done, it's to solidify the idea that the GOP is not strong on defense!

Think of the stupid bully at school. Doesn't play well with others, nobody likes them, plenty strong, but not smart enough to apply that strength well.

When taunted, that bully over reacts and ends up just being a tool for the smarter kids at school.

Want your buddy Bob to get beat up? Just trick the bully into hammering him, and it's all easy cheezy.

The only people, who remain convinced the GOP is the better choice are the 23 percenters, and it's 50 / 50 with them. One half is the projection of strength (smarts don't really matter), and the other half is whatever issue they are married to.

Sorry buddy. It's just not gonna go down that way this time.

I was there, as were a lot of my peers. Nearly all of us said, "Well, if there is one thing Republicans are good at, this is it!" One by one, we've seen the incompetence, lies, exploitation and ongoing escalation of the terror problem.

All over now. That perception is largely gone for a growing majority of Americans.

Again, the only people left, who will still talk in those terms are the 23 percenters.

I'm starting to doubt if McCain is that man. He's damn near the age that Reagan died at and he is FLIP-FLOPPIN' on issues. And the EVANGELICAL EXTREME RIGHT wingnuts are not going to back him. It doesn't look good for MY guy!

All that need happen is some nut job foreign leader to cause problems.

Terrorism?

While I am certainly aware of the very real threat of terror, I am much more aware of catastrophes far greater than 9/11. Nature is very angry with us right now, and when Momma aint happy, aint noooobody happy.

The Republicans had no plan for Hurricane Katrina, no plan for Hurricane Rita, no plan for the terrible fires in California, no plan for the death smog in Salt Lake City, no plan for the dwindling water supply for Georgia, etc. etc.

It takes a helluva lot of planning, money and luck for some wingnuts to pull off a 9/11. It takes absolutely no effort at all for our own planet to kick our asses. In fact, the more this administration tries to fiddle with the climate, the worse it has become.

This may sound a bit Jeffersonian, but so be it. The only way this election will be won by the GOP is if they attack the American people themselves. If that comes to pass, I believe that even ol' Herb will remember the Second Amendment, and fight to restore our America.

What they will do is pull a Huckabee. Basically pitch every bitch, (bitch as in chip on the shoulder) but not at the same time and same place, hoping to net a positive number of votes from the ignorant.

"I think they will attack everybody."

Yep. That kind of stuff can really backfire. Just ask the manager of the 1980 Phillies. They won the World Series, in great part because Dallas Green was universally hated by the players. Being champs gave them the leverage they needed to get him canned.

In this respect, Hillary is great tool for Obama, like McCain, she has challenged his candidacy and his legitimacy and even his character to no avail. It is good to spar before the big fight, and believe me, this is gonna be a helluva fight.

Bush said he would run the country like a CEO. WRONG.

Bush said he would be a compassionate conservative. WRONG.

Bush said tax cuts would cut the deficit. WRONG.

Bush said he'd fire whomever leaked the Plame information. WRONG.

Bush said the US doesn't torture. WRONG.

Bush said the US doesn't spy on it's own citizens. WRONG.

Bush said Iraq had WMD. WRONG.

Bush said the GOP would gain seats in 2006. WRONG.

Bush is WRONG on so much stuff, it's laughable. The only way the GOP has a chance of winning the White House is if they catch Obama molesting a child. Otherwise, not a chance in hell they will win.

If the Republicans loose it will not be by much. You under estimate the working class that dont have time to sit around and take polls all day like the lazy left.

Once the parties are set with there canidates watch the Republicans destroy the Dems with political ads and such. Say what you want about the GOP, but they know how to win elections.

No doubt the GOP will bring the heavy guns with political ads. But the times have changed dramatically in the past 2-4 years. 2006 may have been just a tease of what's ahead.

I would love to see a democratic blowout of the GOP, but I'm realistic enough to know that you can play the game on paper, it's something very different when you actually play the opponent in between the lines.

I keep seeing people referring to the 23%.

That may be President Bush's approval rating, but not necessarily the % of people that will vote republican.

I think the election will be a lot closer that many think it will be. I don't know who will win. I think it's going to be by a narrow margin no matter who comes out on top.

I'll probably get flamed for stating this, and please be assured it is NOT my position, but I think there will be a lot of people who won't vote for Hillary simply because she's a woman and not vote for Obama simply because he's Black.

I'd vote for a woman, just never Hillary and I'd certainly vote for Colin Powell if he ever ran.

Regardless of what the polls say today, the 2008 Presidential election will be close. As usual we'll have two imperfect candidates to choose from. Probably Obama and McCain.

Looking ahead, however, Obama has the edge. He has the "new guy" thing going for him. Nice young man. Personable. Great giving speeches. But not a whole lot more. Sadly, this will probably be enough. Most people don't pay attention to the details- he hasn't accomplished anything. He's a leftist- way out left. He's proposing $100 billion in increased spending without any realistic cuts to pay for them. Both he and his wife are somewhat narcissistic. (I've never been proud of my country until now. . that's as self centered as it gets!)

McCain-He's more qualified, more experienced. He's a war hero. But he's OLD.(Not that there's anything wrong with that). He has some baggage- Keating 5, his immigrant amnesty dope deal with Ted Kennedy, his addiction to sticking his finger into the eyes of conservatives just because he can.

Pay no attention to national polls when attempting to pick a winner. Look at the state-to-state head to head polls. Because it's all about the electoral college in November.

If I had to pick a winner today, unfortunately I'd have to pick Obama, for three reasons. 1) The stink coming from the Bush administration 2)Obama's light load of baggage from his past and 3) positive buzz about his speaking ability/nice young man aura.

Me? I'd never vote for such a left winger.

I think it's happening too.

Got mail from Lars yesterday. He's just hammering on McCain, and does not offer an alternative. I don't think he can, and that's telling where the party is concerned.

There is an upside!

Once the GOP hits bottom, which is any day now, the only way from there is up!

I hope that someone within the GOP can take this party by the horns and shake it up like it looks Obama is. The Republican party use to be something I could be proud of. But DUHbya and Co. shook it from the foundation and RUNIED it. I can only hope that the TRUE Republicans can emerge from the rubble of what was once a great party. This last 8 years have been an embarrassment for TRUE Republicans all over America.
