Looks to be a nasty story. I thought for sure it was going to be another Republican. But nope, this time it's a Democrat.

Good. MAN, I hate hypocrites like this.

Republicans have just had a string of bad luck, some Demos have a short term memory when it comes to scandal in their own party and hopefully this awakens them.

I never trust any political leader anyhow.

LOL. Yeah. Bad luck. It doesn't have anything to do with actually doing something wrong - it's that they have gotten caught. And that's just bad luck. Whoopsie daisy. Well shucks. Bad luck. Couldn't have been prevented.

Got it.

If it's not that, MC, by all means tell me what you mean when you say " Bad luck."

People are people in these situations, not Republicans or Democrats. Many Democrats have been lulled into thinking it's only Republicans who get horny.

Trouble in this situation is that this is a guy who has gone after others in criminal activities, while he himself was participating in crime.

The sooner people stop thinking that it's one party or the other, the better off they'll be.

Well bad luck, to me, usually means " It was luck that was bad. It couldn't have been prevented or expected."

I think this and what Republicans have been going through is more akin to " Justice " or " Exposed " or " accountable." I'm not trying to pick a fight or split hairs - I just thought it was pretty far from it all just being " bad luck."

But your point isn't lost on me MC. Republicans have been in the news for this kind of stuff more than Democrats. Which was exactly my point. My point was not that somehow Democrats are immune or hold any high ground on this kind of stuff. But I had to look up if he was Democrat or Republican because it sounded like such a familiar tune.

Republicans are more prone to this kind of scandal because they often back themselves into a puritanical ethical/moral corner. They are forced to take positions that are contrary to their inherent wants/needs/desires in order to pander to the puritans in their base. Or they find themselves in the common conundrum of growing to hate the aspect of their own personality that they cannot control/contain, and end up as a Jekyll-and-Hyde, fighting "immorality" by day and participating in it by night.

Democrats are less prone to these problems, not because they are any more or less horny, but because human sexuality is less repressed amongst their base.

Democrats don't make a habit of moral preaching and then turn around and do exactly what they preach against. Governor Spitzer is sort of an exception, because he made his name fighting corruption and here he is engaging in it. Shame, shame. I think Spitzer's career may dead-end after his term as governor of New York.

Still, it just goes to show that prostitution ought to be legalized. How silly that it's any sort of crime between consenting adults.

At least, unlike Republicans, he went after the opposite sex. That being said, though, with his background as a crusading prosecutor, he should resign.

Like Andrew, I believe that prostitution should be legalized and regulated like it is in Nevada.

However, because it is illegal in NY, and the Governor, who happens to be the former AG for NY, should know better. He should resign because if he can't uphold state law on his own, what right does he have to enforce law on anyone else?

"MAN, I hate hypocrites like this."

AMEN Chickenjuggler!

I am overjoyed that Spitzer is gone. Before you pile on me, spend time with his record. This news is manna from heaven.

"The sooner people stop thinking that it's one party or the other, the better off they'll be."

I totally agree with Deane. It is hurting both parties in the short term, but he is absolutely right. To make this nation great again, we need to take out all the trash. Spitzer would not have time for prostitutes if he were busy with his family and the future of the good folks of New York.

I also whole heartedly agree with what Tadc had to say, but only if it is rephrased.

"Career politicians are more prone to this kind of scandal because they often back themselves into a puritanical/ethical/moral corner.

True leaders are less prone to these problems, not because they are any more or less horny, but because they are working overtime doing their overwhelming job. Human sexuality is less repressed amongst their base, because they sleep with their wives."

What do you think?

I say this because I like everyone here, and I have come off as a jerk lately instead of being reasoned. I hate hypocrites. It makes me angry. Whether it is a closeted member of the GOP who legislates against gays, or a sword rattling member of the Democratic party who ignores our Veterans, they must all be accountable. So, in the future, I'll play nice, but I still gotta call 'em as I see 'em.

I feel that we need to rehabilitate our democracy. We must be fearless about taking all the garbage to the curb. This is a non-partisan goal, and we must all put a hand into this job or it aint gonna get done. This is not about November, this is about making our country live up to it's potential.

So, ladies and gentleman, meet the highly qualified, highly educated and highly regarded new Governor of New York:

David Paterson

"Paterson is a native New Yorker, born legally blind in Brooklyn in 1954. He received a BA from Columbia University in 1977 and later his law degree from Hofstra Law School. David Paterson is the son of former New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson, who was the first African American NYC Deputy Mayor and the first to run for statewide office in New York. Secretary Paterson was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 1970. The elder Paterson also served in the NY state Senate in the same seat his son occupied. The elder Paterson was also the first African-American vice-chair of the national Democratic Party.

In October of 1985, longtime state Senator Leon Bogues, representing a district covering Manhattan neighborhoods Harlem, Manhattan Valley and the Upper West Side, died and Paterson won a highly competitive New York (Manhattan) County Democratic party Committee selection process to serve the rest of Bogues' term. The following year, 1986, he won the seat for his first full term representing the 29th District in the New York State Senate. Paterson was elected Senate Minority Leader in 2002, becoming both the first non-white state legislative leader and the highest-ranking black elected official in the history of New York State.

In addition to serving as lieutenant governor, he serves as an adjunct professor at Columbia University's School for International and Public Affairs. In accordance with New York law, if current Governor Spitzer resigns following the prostitution scandal, Paterson would become the first black governor of New York and the first legally blind governor in the United States.

Paterson is an active advocate for the visually and physically impaired. He was elected as a member of the American Foundation for the Blind, and also serves as a board member of the Achilles Track Club, having completed the New York City Marathon in 1999."

If only it wasn't such a taboo for successful married men to have women on the side. Then he wouldn't have to sneak around and pay for it. He could just have mistresses like Sinatra did!

Well, whatever it says about me, I wouldn't want my wife having sex with a male prostitute. Legal, accepted or even encouraged. It's just not my thing.

Which brings up; I wonder if his wife knew. Odds are that she didn't. But if she did, well, uh...ok. It's still illegal and more than a little hypocritical given his position and positions ( avoiding multiple obvious punchlines there ).

Yeah, I wouldn't want my girlfriend to do that either. It reminds me of a couplet from a great Lisa Marr tune:

"I bought a man in Reno/Just to watch you cry."

(insert jingle)

Spitzer is "Client-9"

If he is number nine, who are the top eight richest and sexually repressed people in New York? Who is number ten? Is this a Top-40 countdown or a Hot 100?

We'll keep countin' 'em down, 'til we get to number one. :0)
