Of course this never would have happened if St. Nixon were still alive, right, HerrB?

In a sense, I'm inclined to say, if the Russian government wants to deal with all of the paperwork and man-hours that it would take to license all Wi-Fi devices, go for it. Wi-Fi devices contain radio transmitters, after all. Does anyone else remember that in the U.S., an FCC license was at one time required to use a CB radio?

...an FCC license was at one time required to use a CB radio?
I no longer have this, but before I was around my grandfather had a CB. Don't know what happened to the CB itself, but found the manual for it. Inside, was a form that had to be submitted to the FCC for a license. This completely baffled me at the time, since I thought CBs weren't licensed.

Also, why don't we just let Russia handle Russian affairs and Americans handle U.S. affairs? That should be easy enough.

The CB radio licensing was phased out in the late 1970s. One trucking history web site states that this happened in 1977.

I remember that the 1981 Radio Shack catalog proclaimed, "FCC News Flash: A license is no longer required to use a CB Radio!" By then, this was not news, but the Radio Shack marketing guys figured that it would sell more radios.
