I saw my girlfriend the other day and I noticed that those nasty bags under her eyes were no longer present. What was her trick for curing those nasty bags under her eyes????

HEMORRHOID CREAM!! It REALLY WORKS, no joke! It completely gets rid of the bags under your eyes. I guess it acts as a vaso-constrictor. Ladies, IT REALLY WORKS!!!! If you don't believe me, TRY IT YOURSELF, YOU WILL BE THANKING ME LATER!! Just make sure you don't get any in your eyes, It burns like hell!!!!(at least thats what I've heard!)

Me and the girlfriend were at Costco today, when we were at the checkout counter i noticed that my girlfriend had 3 cases of hemorrhoid Cream(Costco size cases)in our shopping cart . How embarrassing!!!
My girlfriends new nickname is "Buttface". (No need to explain how she got the nickname)

So Merkin, if you're having trouble with those bags, sneak in the bathroom when Mr. Merkin is asleep and steal some of his Preperation H, and rub some under your eyes!
Actually, you may want to buy your own tube, just in cast Mr. merkin's tube is tainted!!

I have also heard that rubbing Asprin on a Bee sting, relieves the pain.

What are your secret home remedies????
These have to be real remedies that ACTUALLY WORK! Please do share!

"rubbing Asprin on a Bee sting, relieves the pain" thats useless if there are no bees around. Where have all the bees gone?

No but anyway if your country ghetto and have no screens in very hot whether and need to keep the flys out of the house try this: take a ziplock baggy and fill halfway with water and pin the bag to the top of the doors frame. Flys will not enter your place. Not sure why or how it works but it does.

Poison Oak/Ivy

Get some leaves from a peach tree, boil them and then let the water cool. Take a cotton ball and apply the liquid to the affected area. Works almost overnight and should be almost completely clear within two-three days.

Bee Stings

A little dab of Mustard will do ya! (After you take the stinger out of course)

Scarless Healing

Carefully crack open a raw egg, remove the egg lining and place the moist side down on the wound for quick scarless healing.
(Only side effect is that you may cross the road for no apparent reason.)

Infant Hiccups

Moisten your finger, dip it in sugar, and let the baby eat the sugar off of your finger.

If you got the fungus toenails, with the white Cheese coming from your toenails, the best thing for curing that is vasoline. Just rub some Vasoline and the toenails should get better. I learned this the hard way, I had a roommate who failed to tell me that he had a bad case of athletes foot. We shared the shower(not at the same time) because we were roommates and I came down with it. He also had crabs, but I'll save that story for another Thread.

For bad stomach acid, eat a big glob of peanut butter!

Always take an Asprin after eating a big fatty meal like Burgers with fries. I head a study that 80% of all heart attacks happen within a 3 hour time frame after eating a greasy meal.

That some food for thought, Or some heart healthy tid bits!
I also heard that you should never have sex after a big meal because accidents in the pants can happen, plus its bad for your bowels.

"I head a study that 80% of all heart attacks happen within a 3 hour time frame after eating a greasy meal."

Well duh! People who tend to eat greasy meals are more likely to have heart attacks. They are also more likely to have just completed eating another greasy meal! When one figures on 3 meals a day (9 hrs) and sleeping time (12 hrs to digest those greasy meals) that leaves only 3 hours a day to buck the odds.

If you're a gambling man, FOLD!

"Accidents"? Do you you mean getting an STD, or getting pregnant?

Luckily, most people don't have their pants on during sex.

Oh, poop! I just re-read that...

If you are a sloppy eater like me and always spill something on the front of your shirt, (The amount of grease in what you spill is directly proportional to how much you like the shirt or how expensive it was!) and after you have washed the shirt the spot is still there, go to Wal-Mart and go back to the sporting goods area.

They have a product called "Gun Scrubber". It's in an orange and off-white can with an orange cap.

Spray some of it on the spot and a little around the spot area.

The stuff stinks (although I like the smell of it which is fodder for that other thread!).

Throw it in the washing machine after the Gun Scrubber has evaporated and the spot should be gone when the shirt comes out of the wash.

Sometimes it may take 2 tries at it, but I've never had it not take a grease spot out!

Edit add: If you wash the shirt with the Gun Scrubber still wet, you might have to wash it twice to get the smell out of it and the rest of the clothes in that load!

WTF! That sounds more like an old wives tale than a home remedy. Leg cramps in general doesn't that mean a potassium defficency. Eat a goddamned banana folks.

If you get stung by a Jellyfish, pee on it.
(the sting not the jellyfish)
I saw this on "Friends" so it must be true.

If you get pitch on you, peanut butter removes it very easily.
(this I know from personal experience)

Yep.

Used to collect pine cones for the Forest Service replanting efforts. Sticky business.

We went through a lot of peanut butter.

I call bull shit on the Ivory soap deal.

A nice, long, hot soak will nail the leg cramps. Aleve works pretty well too. I do the combination, from time to time.

I'm not sure why we need to make do with home remedies. There are drug stores on every corner. Why not scientifically sound remedies? Are we all that hard up or unprepared that we have to resort to 3rd world behavior?

Yes. And poor.

Lots of times the fix is simple and safe. No Dr. visit, no funky, expen$ive, dangerous drugs; like the fairly dangerous Accutane for acne and the toenail fungus RX drugs. Birth control required!

Skep, it's always good to understand those simple, core options for getting stuff done. Self-sufficiency and sustainability are gonna matter in the years ahead.

The difference between now and a lot of other times, is that we actually have some really rough years ahead, as opposed to just planning for them, should they occur.

Way too many people think the answer to everything is to just buy a solution and be done with it. And we wonder why our liquid cash and savings rates are so low.

This is why.

Well, part of why. The other part is horrible regulation on our core financials. Man, that's ugly, isn't it?

For me, it's always been about fix your own stuff, build your own stuff, maintain your own health, and watch what new stuff you aquire.

I buy almost nothing that comes with a payment, be it simple financing, or service lock-ins. Those raise the monthly nut, and in these times that's bad.

IMHO, it's always bad, but maybe not as bad as it is right now.

Anyway, understanding how things work, what they do and the potential uses for that isn't third world behavior. Really it's just smart.

Knowledge is power. Always has been, always will be.

It might not lead to world domination type of power, but it will absolutely lead to live your life with few worries kind of power.

Third world countries have to do that stuff. We don't have to, but might choose to depending on how things go. Always nice to have the option not to spend money.

Given that wages have been flat or falling for quite a while now, those not spend money options might come in pretty handy, making the difference between saving some each month, and just living paycheck to paycheck.

Have to write a bit more too. Sorry, but I like these kinds of discussions!

We have the Internet today, and that's pretty huge where this kind of thing is concerned. Doing a lookup on the properties of things is quick and easy. So is talking to people, and or researching those properties and how they interact.

A coupla hours each week, learning about the things available to you means being able to leverage them in more ways.

It's a time investment that will equate to money not spent. Hell of a deal.

Although I am a bit skeptical (no pun intended) about some of the more esoteric home remedies, I can understand an aspect of their appeal aside from their cost savings: these remedies usually repurpose materials, foods, or medicines. Thus, they save one from having to keep a lot of medications on hand for specific ailments, like bee stings, body acne, and toenail fungus.

I had the WORST toe fungus on my left big toe. The nail was cracking, and this white Cheddar Cheese was coming out of the nail.
If needed, i could sprinkle the white chedder cheese from my infected toe onto a dozen bags of Jiffy pop. I had a TON of toe cheese!

Sorry guys this is the last one

But how did you get rid of it?

I actually had to get my whole toenail removed because the toe cheese was so excessive and very smelly. It had a bad odor. I had to go to the podiatrist and he removed the whole toe nail. It bled and bled and bled, and finally it went away. Here it is 2 years later, "Toe cheese free" when hell broke lose. That right, I woke up the other morning and noticed some toe cheese! DAMN IT! looks like im not immune to toe cheese. It looks like a cauliflower is starting to sprout from my big toe!

instead of Beano, just start callin me "Old Cauliflower toe"

Just an FYI, if anybody needs any cauliflower for your summer salads, just let me know. I've got a tiny one growing on my toe:-)

Earlier today, I had found a web page that described the use of vaseline or Vicks VapoRub to treat toenail fungus:

http://www.squidoo.com/toe-nail-fungus-remedies

Possibly, the mechanism by which the Vaseline method works is that it seals out moisture so that the fungi dry out and cannot continue to produce more spores.

The page points out that if your toenails are thick and discolored, then there are fungi living under the nail, and you must resort to the VapoRub treatment. After a few weeks' application, VapoRub will cause the nail to become more brittle and break off. This will expose the infected nail bed. With the continued application of VapoRub, the fungi will stop reproducing, and the nail will be able to heal.
