Does anybody remember "The Box?? It was like a jukebox for music video's. If you had Cable in the mid 90's you would have to remember the box.
You would call this 1-800 number and the station would play the video that you requested. I remember they played a lot more of the dirtier video's that MTV couldn't play like 2 Live Crew Video's, Hammer "Pumps and a bumps". Please tell me you remember this channel.

I very vaguely remember seeing something like it on Columbia Cable several eons ago.........of course, I was maybe only 6 or 7 at the time.

(For reference, CC was just starting to offer DMX service around that same time period. Big thing back in the day--we were the first people on our block to have a DMX receiver. ;o)

I had it. Paragon cable ran the channel. Somewhere on VHS, I've a copy of "How Much Is Enough?" by the FIXX, recorded on demand.

It took about 10 minutes for your selection to play on average.

Paragon ran stereo FM broadcasts for many of the channels. This was one of them, along with the movie channels.

Used to record HI-FI pay per views too. We would record one, then share the tape, everybody all paying for a few movies, watched by all on the block.

I remember finding "The Box" on UHF LPTV stations in Montgomery, AL, Columbus, GA, and Rochester, NY back in the early 1990s.

I once saw a story (I can't remember the show that ran it) that showed one of these "The Box" stations at work. The stations videos were all on tapes that looked like ordinary videocassettes; they might have been Super-VHS. The tapes were stored horizontally, in several columns. A robotic "hand" would come by, pull a tape from the stacks, and put it into one of the playback decks.

Randy: You beat me to it. "The Box" was on K53EA channel 53 between 1993-95. It had 10.9kw of power from its Blanton Rd. transmitter site. K53EA was owned by Gerald D. Kamp and later became KAMK-LP.

That channel later ran M2 (MTV's Alt Rock cable network) until at least 2001. I don't have dates partly because I rarely hook an antenna to my TV. Gerald Kamp used to run a cool little used book and record store out of an old gas station. I don't know what he's doing these days.
