I'm not going to judge a person because she chooses an abortion. That's way too easy -- especially from the male perspective. What are we going to do, stone her to death?

As for Senator Obama, his position on the matter isn't anything new. It may offend some people -- but others feel the law on the matter adequately deals with the subject. I'd rather that women sought the aid of a medical professional in the USA than be forced to creep down to Tijuana for a back alley abortion.

And too, this administration has failed miserably on matters of children’s health issues. There conduct has been nothing sort of deplorable. To call themselves morally righteous on children and family issues but then behave like total hypocrites on the matter shows alarming insensitivity to the needs of children and families. So I’ll take Senator Obama’s positon over the GOP’s mind-bending insensitivity any day of the week.

Clearly Obama is trying to nuance his position on abortion the best he can. All candidates in a general election do the same thing. I don't see what the big deal is. A big editorial over nothing.

I agree with Obama completely on this and certainly so does almost everyone. I oppose late term abortion too, unless there's a real concern about the health of the mother or the fetus. I don't think a woman should be forced to give birth to a brain-dead baby where the doctors knew weeks ago that the fetus was such. Nor do I think a woman should be forced to die due to a pregnancy that jeopardizes her life. But if she is depressed at 7 months and wants to abort the baby? No, of course that should not be allowed.

But this issue is really moot, anyway, because there aren't exactly women lining up to have late term abortions for frivolous reasons. Late term abortion was rare before it was banned by the federal law. Pro-lifers turned Late Term Abortion (aka "partial birth abortion") into a strawman issue, as if all those evil feminazis were getting pregnant and carrying a fetus to 8.5 months just for the pleasure of having the fetus aborted and killed. In practice, pretty much any woman carrying a fetus at that point will do anything to have the baby and protect her fetus, and if her own life is in danger, her doctor will simply induce a premature birth or C-section. This is exactly what happened with a friend of mine: due to complications her doctors induced pregnancy more than a month early. (The baby is now very healthy and doing fine several months on.)

I hate to admit it, but Obama often times demonstrates considerable common sense. This is one of those times.
