IS there a career more unstable than being a disk jockey? Seriously. I think fast food workers have more job security than a dj.

And why is it that all the good talent always get fired and the mediocre ones stay, and Im not singling anyone out because I still hear great air talent on the air today. It just seems that air talent today dont stay as long and are getting fired a lot quicker today than say 10-15 years ago. It almost seems that once a jock gets established and starts making real money, he gets fired because he/she is making too much money. It seems like Part-timers have more job security than the full timer because the part timers are not making much money, so they stay longer.

NBA coaches are in the same class as DJs.

I think the simple meta-answer is... radio is part of the entertainment industry (and is supported by companies that hope people have enough disposable income to eat out, buy an expensive car and/or on exorbitant credit terms, or buy some other product).
Right now, more and more working people are trying to figure out how to have enough money for food. Entertainment is last on the list.

At the rate CBS is going, their stations will start sounding like Charlie.

"NBA coaches are in the same class as DJs."

The difference, of course, is that an NBA coach could retire very comfortably after only one year of salary!
