This guy is nuts!

I was having heated conversation with a friend the other day about how he is convinced that Barack Hussien Obama is a muslim. I used Obama's full name because one of his points was to say that he has three muslim names.

He said he was going to send me the e-mail "propaganda" he has recieved that leads him to believe that Barack is a muslim.

I have yet to hear anything from this friend yet. I did however send him an e-mail with a link to Corsi's Wikipedia page disclaiming the fact that while Wikipedia isn't always the most accurate it is a good starting out point to gain information on a subject you know little about.

About how this guy contridicts himself by believing that the man my friend voted for (Dubya) was in Corsi's mind responsible for 9/11 yet at the same time obviously blames Muslims for our countries current problems ie the Obama is a muslim factor.

I stated that while we may disagree on who is best to lead this country into the future both canidates are patriotic Americans who love their country. But how can this man claim to be a patriot when he (Corsi) is such a fear-mongering bigot.

While I don't want to give this man the time of day and even a second thought or glance its sad when your friends are not only drinking the kool-aide but its also Jonesed with bigotry and hatred.

How does one get a friend to come around and see the light?

I have a friend like yours, Shyguy. My friend started sending me anti-Obama propaganda months ago. The first thing was the now-infamous "Who is Barack Obama?" viral email that is full of easy-to-refute lies (e.g. that Obama doesn't put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance). I naively pointed out just a few of these things to her - and instead of admitting the thing was full of lies, she just kept sending me more anti-Obama crap! Obviously there's no reasoning with her, because facts mean nothing. She's apparently convinced Obama is some sort of Muslim sleeper agent, a Manchurian Candidate.

The latest thing she sent me was a letter claiming that Obama is just like Fidel Castro in Cuba in the 1950s, promising "change" but apparently really being a secret communist who wants to overthrow the government. Oh the worst combination: a Muslim communist terrorist!!!

But I've long since stopped responding to her, because you can't reason with an irrational person.

I've a friend or two and a professional acquaintance that does this same thing.

I ignore the professional one. It's hard to deal on that level and preserve a working relationship. So I stay low key. Won't matter anyway, and I like the guy otherwise.

With the friends, I work on emotional points. These people respond to this.

Facts are not gonna cut it. Stories will though.

I've told my life story and how the current administration has impacted that. It's pure self-interest and something we are all entitled to pursue. So we can be friends and still recognize this.

Get them talking along the same lines and you may find them all wrapped up in the dogma and the ideology.

If so, putting that against, "do you really want?" can lead to some interesting discussions.

This friend of mine is a longtime family friend who is a self proclaimed christian who does frequent church every week. In many ways though as much as I love the guy and his family he is a huge bigot and hypocrite when it comes to his faith.

-He is one of those people who thinks that we need to deport all illegals yet he is a Bushie.

-We need to make a parking lot out of the middle east.

-Loyal to his wife but loves his porn.

-Supports Corsi's ideas yet is voting for McCain.

The baseball bat is starting to sound like the only way to beat some sense into him!

The sad part is there are a lot of people like him out there that believe anything they read on the internet. Not too long ago, I heard some cracker being interviewed on NPR that said the exact same thing. You have to understand this is how the Republicans have done such a good job staying in power. They have a big tent all right, corporate crooks, nuts and idiots.

Anyone hear Thom Hartmann's interview with Corsi on Friday? Hartmann basically decided to give him a taste of his own medicine and asked him some tabloid-type questions that Corsi found offensive. The last one was, "Did you have to sleep with Mary Matalin to get her to publish your book?" This was about at the end of the interview anyway, and before Hartmann even had a chance to "thank" him as the bumper music was coming on, you could year Corsi's phone "click." LOL!!!

Broadway the problem with most (not all) church going folks is that when Sunday comes around that is possibly the only day of the week where they don't willingly "sin". Monday morning comes around and it all starts again. Furthermore my friend is probally a completely different person at church than I know of him in his private life.

And if they go to a good church, they will hear that the bible readings (especially the Gospel) tell them how to live their lives 7 days a week, not just for a few hours on Sunday.

I hate talking religion on a message board, so that's all I'm going to say about that.

Yes, it's true I'm voting for a 3rd party candidate this year, however if someone else honestly feels one of the major candidates reflects how they feel, then so be it. I don't harp on them to change their mind. Not enough time in life to forward anti-anyone statements to others.

"I hate talking religion on a message board"

I suppose its okay if one doesn't preach, or especially, shove it down the throat of others.

I think religious people need to pare things back a bit. Issues of faith should be a deeply personal relation between you and your God, period.

There is no need for middlemen, Churches, the Bible or even Jesus. These are all tools used by shelfish humans over the years to CONTROL the masses.

Worship God privately and serve Him by living your life in a meaningful way that leaves Him pleased.

Why, hey, I feel the hand of God patting me on the back about right now! I knew there was a reason for going off topic just a bit! :-)

Yes we are Chris I wholeheartedly agree with you on that one. It is in some cases those same choices that we as humanity and indviduals struggle with on a daily basis.

Over time I have come to believe strongly in Karma and yes for some its a bitch.

I guess one thing I try to live by is not to hate.

Because in the end hate will consume your soul and possibly kill you.

Andrew, that interview was AWESOME!

Good on Thom for that. I laughed in the car, grinning as I heard Thom just dish it out, calm, collected, making his point nicely.

We are SO lucky to have that guy in PDX.

Shyguy, that is so true. Hate is an extremely dangerous thing. IMHO, the biggest danger is that it trumps reason. (blind belief in dogma does the same thing too and is just as dangerous)

I've always liked to think of the "karma bucket". You fill it with your acts. From time to time, the contents of it determine your fate!

If you want / need to purge, you do so, letting it slowly fill again.

all above statements ok to a certain point but if you knew of good news that would help everyone who heard and accepted it into their lives, why would you want to just keep it to yourself especially when it has become truth to you and many millions over thousands of years.

Sounds like those "I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico" commercials, no offense...

There hasn't been any more news since God created us.

I would think if God remodeled Heaven or lessened the requirement to cross the Pearly Gates, She'd be able to reach those that need to know on Her own.

Think about it, with the middle man out, a relationship with God is pure and true. Who would want anything less than that?
