Something tells me this is just beginning. Could this blow up in McCains face?

And I'm trying REALLY hard not to be judgemental here, but is this really a good idea?

Sorry, I can't get this to link, but it's about Palin's daughter's boyfriend now going to attend convention.

Paulwalker: Could this blow up in McCains face?

What do you mean could it? I think it already has. The problem is that all the National Enquirer-type stories about Palin (not to mention legitimate stories about Palin's history of supporting an Alaska Separatist movement, about her flip-flopping on earmarks and the "bridge to nowhere") are dominating the news this week, at the worst possible time for McCain. The RNC is the time for the candidates to market themselves to the American people. Now, everything must compete with all these extraneous stories about Palin.

I'm having a difficult time believing she will last the week as the nominee. But boy, I hope she does!

Like I said on another thread, I think this is an indication of bad decision making on McCain's side. This shoots down the theory that his experience is something that will make him better than Obama.

As an Obama supporter, I hope she sticks around long enough to get everyone on record defending her. This way, if she's removed or resigns from the ticket, which I say is 50/50 right now, this will show John McCain fumbling his most important first duty as the nominee. We'll have lots of tape of conservatives defending the pick and defending McCain for making the pick. If she sticks around, good for us Obama supporters. She's an albatross. Either way, McCain loses with his pick.

If she is still front cover news come Monday the 8th its not going to be until the morning after the VP debates before she truly starts to stumble.

Remember though, in every rumor there is at least an ounce of truth!

Palin is off her rocker. Will she make it through the week? You can't make this stuff up!

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/09/02/1327574.aspx

As questions have been raised over how thoroughly Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign vetted Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for the V.P. slot, it seems the McCain campaign was unaware of a video -- available online -- in which Palin talks about God's role in U.S. military action overseas, according to a political operative familiar with the situation.

The video, first reported by the liberal blog HuffingtonPost.com, is from a June Palin speech to the graduating class of commission students at Palin's former church in Wasilla, Alaska. While describing her family, Palin told students about her oldest son, 19-year-old Track, who is set to be deployed to Iraq this month with the U.S. Army. She urged students to pray “that our leaders -- that our national leaders -- are sending [soldiers] out on a task that is from God.”

She added, “That's what we have to make sure that we are praying for: that there is a plan and that that plan is God's plan.”

“It's pretty uncomfortable stuff,” said the political operative, after watching the video online. “It's bad. It's really bad. … It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.”

In addition to talking about Iraq, Palin also referred to God's role in her work as governor.

“I can do my part in working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline, about a $30 billion project that's going to create a lot of jobs for Alaska. … [but] I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that,” she said. “I can do my job there in developing our natural resources, in doing things like getting the roads paved and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded. But really that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's hearts aren't right with God.”

It wasn't all serious, though. At one point during the address, Palin praised the graduating class as “a bunch of cool-looking Christians.” Then she picked out one student in the crowd and said with a smile, “Ben, I don't know you well enough yet, but looking at you, I'm thinking, people are going to interested in Jesus Christ through you because of the way you look - this red-headed Sasquatch for Jesus. You look good!” The students cheered. “Times are really changin'. And with the times that change, looks even change.”

The seven-minute speech is posted on the Web site of Palin's former church, the Wasilla Assembly of God. But, the political operative said, the McCain campaign seems to have had no knowledge of it when Palin was announced as McCain's running mate on Friday.

SHE IS BUSH IN A DRESS! Way better looking though, and younger, and willing to just say stuff. Oh man. Trouble is a brewing huge!

I just added her to the nut-bags we don't need list. Heck, she fits on the God does not need her either list, for what that's worth.

" As an Obama supporter, I hope she sticks around long enough to get everyone on record defending her."

That's EXACTLY what may keep her on the ticket. It will not be about what might be the best VP pick now. It now becomes about saving face and not wanting all those who have championed her to have to repeat their various speeches and switch out her name with whomever else McCain has a crush on tomorrow.

Although, you can bet, they'd all do it all over again and hope nobody notices.

LOL!!!

Good grief!

The reality is:

God is exactly as real as any of us thinks God is. That's it. As of this writing, all our science, all our history, all our philosophy and all our theology cannot demonstrate otherwise, making that statement as close to the hard, absolute truth as you are ever gonna get.

There is nothing wrong with that, for ALL of us, WHERE EVER we stand on that matter. It would really be nice to man up and be human about that reality.

Think about it. If that's threatening to you, then it's YOUR issue. That's YOUR insecurity, not somebody's NEED. Getting that wrong, just annoys the crap out of me.

Pound salt indeed!

I hate it, and I'm gonna ignore it for a good long time.

Think hard about the implications of that. Hint: It makes God less real! Maybe being human and decent about it, instead of trying to lay a guilt trip, or use it as some excuse or dodge, isn't such a good idea, BECAUSE DOING THAT BREAKS IT ALL DOWN.

Quite literally, you destroy God when you try to use GOD to cover your own issues. That just sucks on way too many levels.

When I see that kind of crap, it does nothing but reinforce the idea that we've got way too many people, way too invested in their cult of choice.

No thanks.

Tuned in to the Republican Convention. It's horrible. Take all the smack delivered here, picture old, tired and just weird people getting all excited about it, and you've got the picture.

There is one freak, just yelling "yeah! yeah!" to Lieberman's nearly dead delivery!

Lots of "SERVICE" and "COUNTRY FIRST" signs. Few to no young people. Few to no minority people. Few to no, ordinary people.

Gonna tune that convention out now. It's just giving me a headache. Honor, duty, service, Democrats bad, character, you name it, the bumper sticker crap is there.

The most interesting thing I noted was how they managed to string combinations of them together so that the same 3-5 bull-shit points sound different and somehow more powerful.

(Give those word doctors a cookie! They have earned it.)

And nothing from Palin yet.

Oh, this is great!

Lieberman, wanting to speaking directly to the people.

This is no ordinary election. You may never have voted Republican before. Not ordinary times, McCain is not ordinary. May not agree, but you can always count on him to be straight!

--->And this coming from the liar Lieberman!!

Camera goes to Grandpappy Bush!

CHINO = CHristian In Name Only

Acronym based on the RINO & DINO tags for moderate Republicans & Democrats.

A CHINO is somebody that, through their rhetoric, seems to believe that Jesus came to Earth to address abortion and persecute Gays, while ignoring Jesus' teachings on the poor and Social injustice.

It's snarky I know.
But it seems to fit.

Broadway if you really want to know the mission of Jesus all you have to do is go to his first public statement he made in his hometown in front of the elders of the synagogue he grew up in.

Luke 4:18

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor."

In her WSJ column today she called Palin a "Hail Mary." I didn't even think it was fourth and long, or late in the game. The polls have this race much closer. Why the desperation, I wonder?

I think it's because the polls are not really hitting the younger 18-24 crowd, mostly on cells. They are leaning Obama huge -->if they actually follow through on the vote.

Also, the McCain campaign was getting very stale. Obama drawing 5 and 6 figure crowds, McCain having to muscle in on special events to even see 4 figures...

Palin brings a spark and also brings the wedge issues. They need those period. Without them, it's over. With them, it's still highly likely to be over, but highly likely is better than just flat cooked.

I found the hope question interesting! Thought about it all day today, while teaching class.

My hope, in part, comes from seeing a better future than predicted. Another part comes from knowing I have options.

I know I can empower myself to exercise those options, thus placing that future in my hands. In many cases, I can literally MAKE the options!

(rules are for sissies)

Another part comes from my family. I've invested in them. I think it's gonna pay off.

We are all young for a while to dream, explore, and most importantly, learn who we are and what that means.

We are all adults for a while to keep the machinery of civilization running for all to leverage and benefit from. We build during this time. We build for ourselves and we share the burden of building for others to come.

We all get old to share experience with the very young, and to bask in peace with the world and ourselves.

Our history shows us that we do improve, we do grow and we do amazing things along the way, despite our many shortcomings and failures. IMHO, we live in interesting times! That, in and of itself, is a strong case for hope.

If it were dull, there would be little hope. I know that's circular, but it's true for me!

And that's the final part. As a race, we are strong, creative, powerful --very powerful when we work together, we have potential beyond our realization, and we have culture, spirit and a curious nature that drives us to better things no matter what.

Being alive, self aware, here in this amazing place, full of wonders and secrets is a gift I appreciate just waking up each day. I have often forgotten this, and when I do, I find I have a lot less hope!

I think we are not alone for a reason. If there were only one of us, and we knew we were going to die, we would not have hope at all! Nobody to share with, do for, grow with, love, etc...

So there is hope then in our numbers. We look around and take pride in our numbers. We exist, we are strong, we are growing, we love, we play, we share, and we form US and WE are powerful.

Missing has hit it on the mark;

The younger voters 18-24 need to turn out and vote, or this thing will turn to McCain sure as heck.

They've been out there, on the Internets, and Myspace, and all that, supporting Obama. Now, they need to come out on election day. Otherwise, this election will be decided by older white folks, and Southern folks, just like many times before. And that wouldn't bode well for Mr. Obama.
