Pretty damned good, if you ask me. Personally, I would have puked my guts out give one millionth the pressure. She seemed confident, unaffected and relatively sincere. Certainly strong.

And the speech itself was EXTREMELY well written and delivered flawlessly.

Of course, I disagree with some of the implications and the outright policies she stands for. But that's not why I am a Republican, right?

I also like how she is not afraid to bring on the attacks. It shows that she is fair game on any level and she can dish it out as well as take it. She's not soft. I cannot stand her politics. But she's going to make for some great and epic battles. I'll take that. I don't want Obama to win against the JV team. I want him to beat Varsity.

And of course, as much as I like her, I would not want her as my President. But she cannot be dismissed on any basis except the really important reasons. But for style and assuredness, man, A+. Home run.

I give her higher marks than Biden's speech.

She did well, for who she is. I watched, which in itself is amazing, considering my Demo leanings.

Having said that, I'll also say this: She seemed exactly like that girl in High School who couldn't get a date and was always chairman of the Homecoming committee, who would be trying to get everyone to just "please listen!".

"I'm not kidding, we've got to get organized!. The dance is this Friday!"

She would eventually be elected to the Homecoming Court, on a sympathy vote.

Well, I think Biden kicked some serious ass. Way more than she did.

To me, her speech did very little to answer the question of her candidacy. Why her?

Totally agreed on her not being afraid. Seriously, what exactly does this woman have to lose?

There isn't a chance in hell she would see this nomination otherwise, so it's a total lark for her. Go for it, play hard and maybe win. She comes off like that too.

She grates on me big time. It's just the type. I know plenty of people are gonna like her on style and form basis, I'm just not one of them.

I hope she delivers more of those. Each one of them will see an Obama bounce.

She attacked the media, she attacked everybody else, she will hide behind the obvious shields of sexism, family, privilege.

A lot of people are also gonna see that and say, "no way!" She's still got that small town, PTA, naive impression. It's cute, but it's also SO not Presidential.

Given McCain's age, there exists a real and significant chance, if McCain is elected, we could see her being President. That's enough for most people to just either stay home, or do the right thing and vote Obama.

She is not --absolutely not ready for VP.

That came through loud and clear in this speech, however well done it was. (And I think she did well, BTW.)

Her speech was a bust. It was mean spirited, petty, and insulting. Too big on sarcasm and too light on policy positions. Not to mention too long and got a tad boring. I felt like I was listening to the student body president speak of a small high school. And it was obvious that she had nothing to do with writing the speech.

She was a great actress, but as I've said before, she's just way in over her head.

Did anyone else notice that the crowd is 96% white and almost all 55+ years old? It was as if the crowd was forced to cheer, yet, the cheer sign wasn't working properly.

In trying best to describe her speech the words smarmy and catty and trashy come to mind. To me, she came across as a little juvenile in her sarcastic comments about Obama/Biden. And, she seems like she'd be highly polarizing in this country rather than someone who could unite the two parties, which is what is desperately needed at this time. She has sort of a love her/hate her personality, and I think the ones that ended up hating her would outnumber the ones that loved her, making it difficult for her to find much in the way of those willing to cooperate with her. Her speech was also replete with quite a few half-truths and out and out lies, but those qualities never prevented Cheney from claiming the VP spot.

I like her! For PTA prez. Bring on Biden...now he doesn't have to hold back. Her speech was confident and camera-directed and chockfull of cheap applause lines, but didn't one mention the word "environment" and touched on both foreign affairs and the economy only in the context of wanting more drilling. Very entertaining speech, but Peggy Noonan said it most eloquently: political bullshit.

Ever see the movie "Election" with Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick? (Great movie by the way.) The Witherspoon character reminds me a tad of Ms. Palin.

I thought it was a good "red meat" speech for the partisan crowd but not a great speech for independent swing voters. She did not make a great case for why she is ready to be VP. And some of her attacks were a bit gratuitous and perhaps not completely understood by some viewers outside the hall. WTF was up with her attacks on community organizers? Yes, I know that Obama became one after graduating from Harvard Law and she was mocking him, but I thought the way she demeaned community service was disgusting. I wonder if anyone else will pick on that in the media?

Just a quick note, in case my far-fetched feeling proves to be true in some way;

I have a fairly well-trained ear about some things. Not flawless, just, uh, unique sometimes. I've watched a LOT of television sitcoms and stuff like that. I swear that during Guiliani's speech, I heard CNN insert a pre-recorded laugh track. You know those moments when you are watching something and flash of a subliminal picture is shown? ( Or like in Fight Club when the dick is spliced in the kids movie scene ). Well while I was watching Guiliani, he had a line or two - one in particular - that got this out of sync, classic laugh track response. Not in a " Oh brother, they will laugh at anything right now." But a very quick-on-the-button laugh track reminiscent of, if I had to guess, an episode of Friends...possibly Frasier. The later years audience that would knowingly laugh at some recurring joke.

It may be my Ambien, because I cannot imagine CNN doing that. But I DVR'd that speech and rewound it over and over because I thought I caught something that I wanted to hear again.

And I can't call Palin smarmy or catty and stuff - mostly because that, for me, stems from it being unseemly to hear from a woman - but fine for a man? No way. Not this time around. The more she shot, the more I wanted her shot ( politically ).

It's awesome. We don't have to treat her with any kinds of kid gloves ( not that she ever was, so far ). It's so like, totally on and like, rad. She commanded my attention. She got it. I would have LOVED to be laughing at her right now. I can't. No way.

I just want to see her absolutely crushed. I'm not afraid of her - I just don't want her having anything to do with my life.

Both Palin and Lieberman made claims that Obama has done nothing in the senate and gotten no important legislation passed. I'll bet there is a Republican senator from Oregon running for re-election who would beg to differ, or at least so says his advertising. :-)

You all have missed a major point.

The speech was written for her by GOP operatives and rehearsed for 6 hours previous to delivery as well as rehearsed 24 hours previous in a mock podium with prompter setting. She was coached heavily in emphasis and delivery.

By itself, that isn't all that horrible. It's what you expect.

She's dead meat in a debate with Biden. Dead fucking meat.

Obama wrote his own speech.

"It's time for them to own their failure."

The problem is, the expectation that Biden will sail through has already been set. Biden will have to be perfect in the VP debate just to do well (although should be able to), and more importantly he will have to avoid saying anything stupid. Palin, meanwhile, will have the bar set so low that if she can survive the evening with a few canned soundbites she's already started memorizing most likely she'll probably skate through. Remember, these aren't really "debates" they're question-answer sessions. All you have to do is transition your answer into one of your memorized soundbites. And the big game about the debates is expectations. Gore was expected to do well in 2000 and he did not; Bush wasn't expected to do well and he did not either, but he met expectations, so people though he did great.

Biden will probably avoid criticizing Palin much if at all - he has to avoid the appearance of attacking a woman. He will probably stick to attacking McCain. She can attack Biden and Obama and get away with it - no kid gloves required.

I think the presidential debates will be much more important, actually. All Obama really needs to do is show he's presidential and can handle himself. Very much like Kennedy in 1960 against Nixon. Once Kennedy eased people's doubts about his inexperience, he got enough votes to win the election.

JFK was a war hero. A man of steel. not a community organizer. making a comparision between JFK and obama, is like comparing apples and oreanges. Both could make good speeches and look good on camara. but JFK had the real goods. I'm old enfough to have seen JFK when he was president.

Let's be clear: just because the NE was correct on the John Edwards story doesn't mean it is right about this story. Anyway, the Republican base already has one adulterer, John McCain, on their ticket, and keynote speaker Rudy Giuliani is a serial adulterer. Clearly it's not something that disqualifies a Republican to run for high national office, so why would it hurt Palin with her base?

Goudronbebe, that was a brilliant find. I would add Tubman, Walesa, Mandela, Ghandi and Guthrie to her list, but I think everyone could think of a few more. That response to Palin was a home run!

I wonder why John McCain and Sarah Palin canceled a photo-op appearance with the long established community organizers at Habitat For Humanity?

John and Sarah will have a whole lot of explaining to do when they arrive to exploit the orgy of community organizing happening on 9/11 in New York City.

Obama writes his own speeches.

They won't even allow Palin to be interviewed by the press or answer questions from the voters. She's a prop, meant to look good and give a nice speech written by someone else. Talk about an empty suit relying on nothing but speech!

Now why would they not want her talking to reporters or voters? Could it be that her true colors will show, and that is that she really knows nothing about most things outside of her valley trash hometown way the hell outside of the mainland?

For the first time ever, I feel like I know more than one of the candidates knows about the world. She's breathtakingly unqualified and it shows.

This carries a lot of weight with me. Obama is personally considering things and willing and able enough to communicate that with us.

He's going to lead, not the establishment.

If you want change, this is a core requirement, IMHO.
