I managed to listen to only the 2nd half in my car - may watch the re-run on OPB tonight at 10 but now, maybe not. I think I got the gist of it.

Some of what he said would have been impressive had his actual behavior been in line with his rhetoric. He wants to take back Washington, challenge his own party that got corrupted? Great - what did he do about that from 1995 til 2006 while his party was in control of the Senate (except for part of 2001-2002)? And why did he switch most of his positions in the last two years to be in line with this same corrupt Republican party? McCain makes it look like he wasn't in Washington the last 26 years.

What really offended me were his blatant lies about Obama (in line with Palin's the night before). He said his tax cuts would create jobs and Obama's tax increases would get rid of them - never mind that Obama has promised to cut taxes on 95% of American working families. Never mind what happened in our economy the last time a Democratic president raises taxes on the wealthy (hint: jobs were created, not lost). And of course, this absurd notion that Obama's health care plan would "force" families to put their health care at the burden of some bureaucrat - ? Bullshit!!! Obama's plan lets you keep your existing health care coverage if you like it. What a bunch of crap. And he said Obama didn't want to build new nuclear power plants, even though in his own convention speech Obama specifically mentioned nuclear power and talked about a 10-year plan to make the US energy independent.

Sure, I wasn't going to vote for McCain at this point - not a chance. But I thought I might have a least an ounce of respect left for the man. After such blatant lies like these, I've lost all respect for McCain.

Andrew

Well, based on the responses here, it looks like the football games were the big winners.

The wealthy, the stupid, the right wing religious zealots ... just aren't enough for McCain to win.

He needs independent voters and they can only be won by talking about solutions to economic issues, hardly mentioned all week at the RNC convention.

The convention is over. Now the real comparison begins.

The Republicans have NOTHING new to offer.

Check this out.

Just for fun, Google up the full texts for both McCain and Palin's convention speeches, and do a word search for "environment," "climate," and "global warming." They are not found. If they're not on their radar, they don't get my vote.

But it was good to hear McCain say some conciliatory words about Obama...to the effect of, "I wouldn't be an American worthy of the name if I didn't respect Barack Obama and what he has accomplished." I wish they'd all keep that tone. I hope Sarah Barracuda gets the memo.

Yeah, I wonder who he was referring to when he said:

"I fight to restore the pride and principles of our party. We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us. We lost the trust of the American people when some Republicans gave in to the temptations of corruption. We lost their trust when rather than reform government..."

I can't imagine he endeared himself to too many Republicans with some of the stuff he said.

Ahh man, I almost forgot that this place was 99% democrat.

Good thing Vitalogy spent all that time watching the speech so he could inform us with an insightful "yawn"

Admit it, he could of pulled diamonds out of his ass and donated the profits to starving children in Iraq and you would of still found it boring.

You dont want to like the guy, you want to convince others not to like him.

"donated the profits to starving children in Iraq"

Him? Donate anything to anybody? Are you serious?

But I'll take a nice pair of 3+ ctw solitaire earrings, please!

This way I can be sure that nobody (i.e. child) was exploited or harmed during the mining and production of the nuggets.

Mc Cain is so full of shit, that they shouldn't take long to make, right?

Marvin, do you think you'll have problems getting them past those hemorhoids? It might be a bit messy. Oh, and I prefer the yellow gold settings.

It was boring because all he told us was he's a POW. We already know that. He provided no direction at all as to what he's going to do, which leads me to believe he's going to continue the same failed policies.

He did tell us the Republicans f'ed up but we should elect the Republicans to fix the mess the Republicans got us into.

Kind of a tough sell, if you ask me.

As much as you complain that McCain told you nothing, I am sure you will spend the next two months talking about him and nothing about Obama and what his plan is.

And merkin, your act is cold. Take your comedy act on the road.

"I am sure you will spend the next two months talking about him and nothing about Obama and what his plan is."

Marvin, generally people like to talk about the ones who put their foot in their mouth. So far Obama hasn't come close and Biden has been doing remarkably well keeping his feet away from his mouth.

That's because the Obama facts are not in question.

All of the talk surrounds the simple reality of the GOP putting nearly everything in to question.

Of course, they could just flat out tell the truth a lot more often -->and just lose nicely.
