Dang.

No bang.

I guess we will have to question the patriotism of Clark County.

Next thing you know, they'll be letting the British set up a corporate dictatorship in the city.

Soon, they'll have a central office in a fortified installation that controls the people and economy of the surrounding region.

Oh well, at least we will all have a place to sell our pelts.

Well, maybe I can get some pretty new beads.
And a nice blanket with smallpox.

And If I can get past the giant gate made from all those old growth logs, a fresh fruit smoothie from Burgerville. To go.

I hope it's the one with the HOLE in it! Hey, maybe Tom could paddle for you, he's got nothing better to do for a while!

Hey! I didn't want the guy either.
Regardless, he's dead to me now.

Back on topic.

Does anyone here go to/watch the fireworks?
Is it a family tradition?
Do you care?
Would you pay (more)?

My uncle lived in a house on Harney Heights just above Fort Vancouver, and we would have a skybox-quality view of the show. He died a few years ago, the house was sold...haven't been back to see the show since.

Used to. Don't any more.

We will either go downtown, or just do some fun stuff at home.

I have better memories of the traffic jam that follows the show.

Don't we go through this every year? And somehow every year we have them.

I think it's a shame and I hope they find a way to keep it going.

I wish that I had gone to Ft. Vancouver this year instead of downtown Portland. :-( The story on KPAM this morning said that if all the people viewing the fireworks from the official site had paid the $4 suggested donation, there would have been enough money for next year's show.

It sure seems like it... there's always some group that seems to step up to the plate.

Meanwhile, over on the Columbian's website, there's an article today about how the City of Vancouver's transportation dept. is out of money, and the city is considering a Sam Adams-style Street Maintenance Tax to raise future funds:
http://columbian.com/article/20080909/NEWS02/809089936

On a more serious note, how many residents of the Portland Metro Area saw their last Fourth of July because they'll either freeze or starve to death this winter because of skyrocketing heating and food costs?
