Caly Aiken is gay???? I never would have guessed! I mean there was nothing that hinted that he was gay!

I hate to admit this, but before this little tabloid story broke, I had heard the name "CLAY AIKEN" but I had absolutely no idea who he was! For some reason, I always get the name confused with guitar great "Chet Atkins" and barely realized people were talking about someone else!

This news was as shocking and appalling as when George Michael came out of the closet.... cuz you know a guy who wears a T-shirt with CHOOSE LIFE printed on it, singing about "wake me up before you go go" isn't gay at all... not that I care but it's one of those duh news stories.

I just want to know how he got in the closet and how long was he in there? Glad he got out before he starved to death. Odd too is the fact that there are so many public figures who get trapped in closets. Ha Ha. Now as for gay or not. First, who cares? Second why do people feel the need to reveal it if they are? Just go on about business, and figure if someone sees you holding hands or smooching the same sex ala, Ellen, Rosie, Lindsay, Lance, or whoever, they will probably figure out you are gay. Does a celebrity REALLY need a press conference or PUBLIC statement? Does anyone? You're gay, your black, you're left handed, you're blind, you're blonde, you are a communist, repubrobate, deomocrite, baptist, pagan, amish, buddhist...... WHATEVER, YOU ARE.
No matter WHAT you are, SOMEONE will find offense if you make a public statement of affirmation.

Just be. No one needs to know what you are.

Acceptable statement to gain recognition.

"Hello. I am (your name here)"

Unacceptable introduction designed to draw attention to a specific feature and create a separate but equal atmosphere rather than one of true equality......

"Hello, I am, (gay, black, communist, pro life, etc...)

When was the last time a straight man went on tv or in a magazine and announced he was straight(tom cruise dont count, he is gay)

Point is that if you want to be accepted then stop with the press conference announcing that you like weiners in your butt.

I just feel bad for his kid, because that is going to be one scary looking kid! Hopefully the kid will get most of his looks from Mommy's side

Looks and hair will be the least of his life worries growing up with major disfunction from his "parents" although the talent genes will be there...don't know if that will contribute to a productive sane life.

In the grand scheme of things, no, it doesn't matter that Clay Aiken is gay. But, it's who he is, and who the hell are you, or I, or anyone else to judge him by WHO HE IS? If you want to judge his music, fine. If you want to judge his character, fine. But coming to grips with who he is as a person, accepting it and announcing it, and going forward, is much tougher than ANYTHING you, I, or any other straight person will ever do. The fact that he is a prominent public figure, in a society that is still very homophobic, makes the decision to come out that much more difficult, and admirable.

Maybe the press conference was to try and become accepted among his constituents.
