"An investigation has concluded that Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power, according to a report just now unanimously released by the legislative council."
Anchorage Daily News

"I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch ethics act," Stephen Branchflower said in the 263-page report to the Legislative Council released Friday afternoon.

"Alaska statute 39.52.110(a) provides 'the legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust,'" Branchflower continued."

KTUU

The complete Branchflower report is available to the public.

Oh damn, there goes her chance to win the election. I am sure that this will change everything now.

like she had any chance to begin with.

Well it's a good thing that this investigation was started well before her nomination then, MC74.

Besides, I suspect a different tune would be being sung had she not been found to have abused power. THEN it would have become an important rallying cry! But because she sorta did it - now it's silly to mention it.

Got it.

Its sickening . . .

The report says she knowingly “permitted Todd Palin to use the governor’s office and the resources of the governor’s office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired.”

Isn't this exactly the kind of behavior we're trying to rid Washington of?

McCain justifies his standing near the bottom of his Navy class. F-ing loser.

Two months from now you will not care about this story cause the Election will be over and Palin will be back in Alaska doing her hockey mom routine.

Funny you mention that the investigation was started well before the nomination, I searched and searched and much to my shock I could not find one topic about it on here before she was nominated.

So lets not pretend you care what happens in Alaska, you only care now cause its more ammo for Obama to use to win an election that was never in doubt to begin with.

Denial isnt just a river in Africa.

No no. I meant that it was started for relatively good reasons ( to find out the truth ) and apolitical intent. It wasn't started by Obama or run by his campaign. ( I know you didn't say that it was. But some have ).

And hell, if you need me to admit that I would not have cared had she not been nominated for VP - you got me there. You're right. I fully admit that. I never meant to pretend that I would have. But since she was, that forces me to make a judgment about her as a potential leader for ME.

And I could name a few Democrats that have pulled this kind of shit in their home state too and you'll just have to take my word for it; I would not be happy about them being my pick. That's fair, isn't it?

Is that ok with you that I feel that way?

Mc74, Do you think McCain knew that Todd Palin was using the governor's office to get an ex-relative fired? While not knowing the possible outcome of the investigation, would this be a RED FLAG for most reasonable people looking for a VP selection -- guilty or not, it sure looks fishy -- right?

If Sarah never told McCain about some of the details in the report not in dispute, McCain should drop her like a hot potato.

Stevethedj sez: who gives a rats ass.

Obviously you don't so why did you even bother to post? Some of us do care, so stay out of the discussion. Since you insulted me, I'll insult back -- go back to night school. It'll do you a world of good.

It's to late to drop her, remember Eagleton? Besides in Oregon it would be to late to remove her name off the ballot.

It would also show that McCain has bad judgement if he removes Pahlin now. Wait a minute we know he has bad judgement, good bye Ms. Sarah.

" zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..who gives a rats ass. except dems. remember bill clinton. oh yah he was just misunderstood. double standard. lol."

Well it was a bipartisan panel that came to that conclusion. So I guess there were SOME Republicans that cared, eh? Or are you saying that Republicans don't care about this?

I do not forget Clinton's actions. In fact, for what it's worth, I'm glad there is a Democrat that you can point to. I do it too. So, wait, are you saying I shouldn't care about Clinton because he was a Democrat? But, uh, what if I do? What does that say?

CJ is right. This is not partisan.

As I recall, we all thought Spitzer and Goldschmidt deserved every moment of their shame and grief. The people they hurt had our sympathy, but we all agreed that both of the former Governors were pond scum. Usually there is an old fashioned non-partisan pile on around here whenever something stinks this bad. Give folks some time to craft a zinger or a rant. A balance will be struck if you let the topic grow naturally in a democratic way.

Walt Monegan was a lifetime servant to our country and his community. His lost his father in Korea, yet he still joined the Marines and went to Vietnam. He came home to Anchorage as a beat cop in 1974 and grew to become one of those rarest of people: A truly great policeman. In his long and distinguished career, he served with honor, integrity and dedication to duty. In the end, he was fired for not playing along with a vendetta.

This is not just about a corrupt Governor of a corrupt state. This is about a single-minded attack on the integrity of one of the few truly honest folks who serve the people of Alaska. You do not have to like anyone connected to this story, or this case. You should, however, be elated when the truth prevails. Walt Monegan deserved to be heard. This decision was just. If it ruins the career of a politician, but saves the name of a good cop, so be it.

I wouldn't have cared, if she were not nominated.

I did see one article about her abuse of power. It was about two months or so before her nomination. Saw the picture and said to myself, "that one is gonna be dangerous".

When she got the nomination, I also thought McCain was cooked!

No, I don't care so much about what happens in Alaska. I also think a whole lot of people there don't care what happens here in Oregon either.

And that's a problem to be fixed someday.
