McCain supporter makes up story about being mugged and beaten up by a tall BLACK man in desperately pathetic move to incite racial tension to presidential race. Clearly, she's a few marbles shy of a full pack.

Bookemdono-

Take this for what it's worth or completely disregard my comment.

Let's not bring up these kinds of articles, they don't do any kind of good on either side.

I have appreciated your comments in the past, but this one just feels wrong to even post.

I can certainly see what you mean by posting that story, and I appreciate your viewpoint regarding my doing so. However, this story was getting fairly prominent press before it was proven to be a hoax, and it could still have an impact on swaying undecided voters. Why, the VP of Fox News has gone so far to say that if indeed the story is a hoax, McCain's campaign is over, as he will be forever linked to a "race baiting" incident.

I, too, cannot wait for the election to arrive as the tit-for-tat amongst the candidates is growing increasingly ugly. I felt this story had some merit and significance, just as a couple other threads that discussed other events with racial undertones within the content, i.e., Obama characters being hung in effigy.

Also, I have no problem at all if this thread sinks like a stone or is removed from discussion.

There's no evidence the McCain campaign had anything to do with making this story up. Sounds to me like the work of one deranged, attention-starved person who happened to volunteer for McCain's campaign. (She had been there one week before the incident.) It worked: both McCain and Palin called her personally, plus of course nationwide media attention.

I have a feeling she won't be doing much for the McCain campaign in the future...

Lars Larson went ballistic about her "attack" last night. Wonder if he will talk about her lie tonight.

What did Lars have to say about the female who was punched in the face by a McCain supporter the other day? I doubt he even mentioned it.

Lars got his panties in a wad because he has an issue with black people.

Buddy of mine does the morning news on a local station here and a listener called to beat him up for not touching the alleged PA mugging story; said it had been all over 750 the day before, and why's it being covered up now? My pal's answer: doesn't pass the sniff test. Nothing concrete to indicate either campaign was involved. Just because Drudge is pushing it, doesn't make it news.

Years ago some wacked out talk show host (I forget which) claimed someone carved a swastika into his forehead. Not true. "Law & Order" or some such show did a spin on the story later. In each, the fact that "nailed" the lie was that the writing was reversed....as if it had been done in a mirror, rather than by someone actually looking at the person assaulted.

It was the first thing I saw, and thought of, when I saw the story of the woman with the obviously backward "B". Mirror writing.

"There's no evidence the McCain campaign had anything to do with making this story up."

Really?

"John Verrilli, the news director for KDKA in Pittsburgh, told TPM Election Central that McCain's Pennsylvania campaign communications director gave one of his reporters a detailed version of the attack that included a claim that the alleged attacker said, "You're with the McCain campaign? I'm going to teach you a lesson."

Verrilli also told TPM that the McCain spokesperson had claimed that the "B" stood for Barack. According to Verrilli, the spokesperson also told KDKA that Sarah Palin had called the victim of the alleged attack, who has since admitted the story was a hoax.

The KDKA reporter had called McCain's campaign office for details after seeing the story -- sans details -- teased on Drudge...

A source familiar with what happened yesterday confirmed that the unnamed spokesperson was communications director Peter Feldman. Feldman was also quoted yesterday making virtually identical assertions on the Web site of another local TV station, WPXI."

Talking Points Memo

There is a mighty fine line between "making it up" and "ginning it up" to the media. There is no evidence of an effort by the national McCain campaign officials to run with the story, but a local effort was clearly made in a state they desperately need to win.

I googled.

It was Morton Downey Jr. (that would qualify as wacked out!) He claimed to have been jumped in a men's room, beaten, and a swastika drawn on his forehead in lipstick. (I was close). Cops became suspicious because swastika was backward -- as if drawn in the mirror.

A pitbull with lipstick with a black eye and a backwards " O " on my face.

KW, I am willing to bet that Palin becomes a real liability over the next week or so. From what I have read, she is becoming out of control. Some leaders in the G.O.P. want to throw her under the bus on November 5th. I wonder what the future holds for a newly famous family with a solid record of grudges and pettiness.

CJ and Pete, great finds! After seeing the hoax on the news, a friend of mine caustically remarked that if she had carved a backwards "O" on her face, it might have been plausible for a few more minutes. The Pittsburgh police and local media definitely deserve a lot of credit for nipping this dangerous lie in the bud.

Tdanner, since you wisely brought him up, here is a Morton Downey Jr. flashback. He is joined by Ace Frehley, Joey Ramone and a gaggle of groupies.

The happiest person in America when it comes to the subject of Sarah Palin is Dan Quayle.

Is "going rogue" different than "getting all mavericky"?
