I was reading an article in a Magazine about How middle-aged guys are reaaly starting to care about their appearence, more than usual. More Guys are getting Botox than ever, the number of guys getting plastic surgery has increased by a lot. Apparently there are a lot more metro-sexuals walking around than ever.
How much time do you spend on YOUR appearance?? And is Vanity really that important to you.
Do you get a super expensive haircut each month, Do you fake and Bake in the tanning beds? Do you work out 5 days a week?

Ha ha, no. A pony tail is the way to go. NOBODY ever mistakes me for a Republican, ever.

Do you fake and Bake in the tanning beds?

Have you seen George Hamilton lately? Oh, never mind, that was a prune. I keep getting them mixed up these days.

do you work out 5 days a week?

Never been in a gym. But I ride my bike all the time.

Mrs. M wants the dirt!

I don't work out 5 days a week. Like Skep, I will ride a bike often.

No fancy haircuts. I tend to let it get a bit long, then cut it.

I WILL use a nice skin soap and scrub off, from time to time when things get crappy, but that's it. That's more of a feel good thing then it is vanity. Ordinary soap builds up and it feels lousy after a while.

I like to tan, but I do it outside, when it's tanning weather. When it's warm, and light clothes make sense, then it's great to do stuff and go places and be out in the sun.

It's hard to see doing the fake 'n bake deal. If the weather won't get a person tan, then it's lousy enough weather that wearing light clothes doesn't make sense, so who cares about being tan?

Then there is the higher risk of some skin cancer.

"Do you get a super expensive haircut each month, Do you fake and Bake in the tanning beds? Do you work out 5 days a week?"

No.(Great Clips)
No. (Bad for you)(I'm the whitest guy around)
No. (I need to do more than I do, which is basically nothing but walking).

The only vain thing I do is wear sunglasses whenenver it's at all sunny, so that I don't squint and thus get eye wrinkles. But even that isn't working so well.

"More Guys are getting Botox than ever......Do you get a super expensive haircut each month, Do you fake and Bake in the tanning beds? Do you work out 5 days a week?"

No, but my Mum's hubby does, unfortunately........

"Apparently there are a lot more metro-sexuals walking around than ever."

Yes, I have noticed that a lot lately especially in East Vancouver, and I think it's kinda' disturbing. When I see a guy walking out of U.L.T.A. on 164th, with a bag full of what I presume to be bank-account-drainingly-expensive beauty products of some sort (I don't ask, I have more important things to do with my time) I generally can't help but think, "boy, he must have married well." Of course, this thought is automatically made questionable by the very fact that he's walking in and out of the store by himself..........

Sorry Guys, Estrogen is *no* substitute for unadultrated testosterone!!

(And yes, I am a guy.)

Anyhoo..........

As for me:

"How much time do you spend on YOUR appearance??"
Maybe about ten minutes a day. Rarely more than that. My beauty products? Soap, water and deodourant, little else.

>> Do you get a super expensive haircut each month,

No. (I'm more than likely to have a helmet strapped down to it more than 60% of the time anyways. Supercuts for me.)

>> Do you fake and Bake in the tanning beds?
No. That's what the sun itself is for.

>>Do you work out 5 days a week?
Not really, unless doing courier runs--mostly up hills in Vancouver--five days a week on a crappy mountain bike counts........

Oh dear...here come my confessions:

I get my haircut about every 5-6 weeks at a salon. However I can write if off! How? (this is going sound so bad) I'm what's known as a lifestyle model through my talent agency. Not the pretty boy magazine hunks, but the guy next door variety. Been paid to portray Meriwether Lewis and believe it or not Jesus. Was hired by National Geographic for a photo shoot on Mt. Hood but couldn't swing it due to another contractual agreement. Would have been a nice paying gig.

I workout 5-6 times a week. A combo of weightlifting, running, biking, basketball, long walks with the wife. However I started this in my late 20s.

Did tanning beds for a very short time. Gave it up by the time I was in my early 30s.

Used to dye my hair but now I like the little bit of grey around the edges, we call them character lines. Yeah that's it!

Metrosexual me? Probably borderline.

I don't fit into any of the behaviors listed at the top of this thread, but I do have on thing to confess: If I were to start losing my hair, I would definitely do something about it. I don't want to end up with a bald spot, like my dad.

I was thinking of Trying "Hairclub For Men" because of my really bad receding hair line, BUt I've heard Horror stories, not to mention its very expensive. The Bottom line is, if your single and looking, your going to care about your appearence a lot more than the married person.

If I were to start losing my hair, I would definitely do something about it.

Mine is falling out, and not fast enough!

The sooner it's gone, the less I have to mess with.

My wife says "Why don't you just shave your head then?" Nope. One more thing to have to keep up with!

I do get my hair (what's left of it) cut at a salon, but it's only because I'm picky on who cuts it. I've been going to the same lady since we moved out here in 1995.

If Brian is the most un-vain person, then I have to be the 2nd!

I dress for me. I wear what's comfortable.

Cancer beds? Not on your (or my) life. If I get tanned, it's only by the sun.

And since I won't put anything on me that has any kind of smell or feel to it, that rules out sun tan lotion. I just wear a shirt in the summer. (Which, BTW, is a good thing for anyone who can see!)

Expensive clothes? Hell no. A $20 pair of jeans at Wal-Mart, Sears, etc is fine. A $20 pair of shoes from Big 5 works too!

I'd never pay $100 for a pair of jeans, that's just silly.

Now, that being said, if you are buying a suit or something along those lines, it's different. Those do make a difference if you buy a cheap one or not. Although, I haven't worn a suit since the day we were married almost 24 years ago!

Just hear on John Tesh that Your appearence has a TON to do your work ethic. Meaning, if you come to work with a wrinkled shirt that is not tucked in, you obviously don't care about your appearence so why will you be caring about your work? It makes sense. Employers look at this stuff.

Whoa! I just checked out CT and the lovely Barb on their website. He's no John Tesh, he's much better looking than that goofball, and probably a much better musician as well.

Some days I literally roll out of bed, brush my teeth and put on some deodorant, change clothes, and get on the bus.

I forgot when the last time I got my hair cut was (over the Summer at some point). My clothes come from such upscale retailers as Goodwill and K-Mart (the one between 4th Plain, Burton, and Andresen, no less!). I don't tan or work out or anything like that, either.

The funny thing is, how I dress has changed only a little over the last 14 years or so... but women these days seem to enjoy it more. I even have a few shirts from back then I can still fit into. Only thing I'm not gonna do is stupid stuff like wear shorts in 30° weather, change things just to impress someone, or pretend I like something that I don't like.

IMO, this is one of the unknown changes coming out of the equality movement (which isn't a bad thing and still isn't very equal), that some men are starting to think/act "oh no! I have to look a certain way to impress someone," which women have been doing for years. When I did start to notice that other men are dressing in shorts and t-shirts when it's freezing (or nearly freezing) outside, it did make me stop to think that this is what women have been doing for years.

Makes me so glad I like women based on personality. :-) (And the ones that like me like me for my personality as well!)

Oh MY LORD! I wouldn't let my dog get a haircut at Great clips, they have fucked my hair up way too many times. How can you mess up a guys hair cut who has really short hair to start off with??
You Can't!!! Oh, Wait a minute, yes you can! I sware those people that cut hair at Great Clips come right off the streets with ZERO training in cutting hair!
Sorry, but its a sore subject with me, I have not had good experiences with great clips!

The last time I got my haircut at Greatclips, the woman asked me how much I Wanted to give her for a tip.
The only "TIP" I wanted to give her was LEARN HOW TO CUT HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\

I had a friend who went to Great Clips and the woman cutting his hair, cut his ear while giving him a haircut. His ear started bleeding, and instead of apologising, this dumb woman started laughing!
I would trust Paris Hilton cutting my hair over a Great Clips stylist!!!!

As far as playing misty...well...later this month I have been asked to accompany a vocalist who will be singing "My Funny Valentine." Does that count?

I have heard a few people say that the act of having to put on formal clothes that are set aside specifically for work is a ritual that helps them to get mentally prepared to work. This may be more effective for some people than others.

Bicycle 5 days a week total of 75 miles avg 13 mph unless the headwinds are brutal. This is for health, not appearance.

Clothes: OK, if you have ever worked in a broadcast facility as an engineer, on your feet and on your knees, servicing equipment mounted in the lower regions of the rack, wearing anything but blue jeans is foolish. Out of that for years, I still wear jeans almost every day but now the knees don't wear out any faster than the rest of the legs. $45 dollar jeans on sale for $25-32. Cheap thin jeans wear out too fast unless you walk around and never do any work in them. I always have a nicer looking pair of jeans for more formal occasions. Suit? yeah, I've got'em for Bar Mitzvah's and weddings and funerals.

This is Oregon. Everyone wears jeans unless you're a car salesman or a young Republican (ugh) or a doctor or dentist or work in a bank or law firm. This is mostly a broadcasting type group of people. Anything but denim is a foul.

Haircut? When it becomes unmanageable, usually about 2 months. Fortunately, I've still got hair, but the sides grow faster than the top (what's left up top, anyway). At the local barbershop which recently raised its price to $16. Tried the el cheapo places and you get butchered. No thanks.

Tanning beds? That's for car salesmen, exotic dancers and high priced call girls. Why the hell would you want to bombard your body with all that EMF?

Clearly all my years in broadcasting put me in contact with many radio and tv "personalities" where image is everything. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, IT WAS ALL THEY HAD!!!
Powered by the sound of their own voice we wrenches used to say. Having said that, there were a few that had some brains to go along with the huge ego. List upon request. Send $19.95 to Portland Radio and TV Tell All, P.O. Box 5150, Portland, OR.

My cousin, who is pastey white came over the other day with a tan, and I have to admit it looked good, she looked a lot more attractive. She got an "airbrush" tan. Apparently air brush tans are the new "In" tans with kids these days.
With an airbrush tan, you go into a booth (Naked of course) and have a woman spray you with a tanning solution( Its like a mist that they spray on your whole body.) It actually looks really REAL! I might actually go get one. The only problem I do have, is standing naked in front of an attractive woman. What happends If I get aroused while she is spraying me down? :-)
