People around the world are just as anxious about this election as we are.

http://www.newsweek.com/id/166910

Quotes:

The world has never watched any vote, in any nation, so closely. In country after country, polls show record-high fascination with the outcome of the U.S. elections this Tuesday. . . .

In Pakistan there was so much interest in the first presidential debate, the VOA changed its initial plans and broadcast the next two as well.

Indonesians and Kenyans, are of course fascinated and somewhat astonished by the fact that Barack Obama, . . . should be the front runner . . .

. . . in Vietnam, there is much discussion over John McCain, . . .

Europe is thrilled by the prospect that whatever happens this week it will mean the end of George W. Bush, and enraptured by the sheer spectacle of it all.

Well, I think it's a whole lot more about Bush being so horrible that we look around and said, "Yeah! I think it's time for the Black Guy with the Muslim name."

Bill Maher said that, and it just fits perfectly!

Broadway, the world isn't watching because Obama is some kind of Messiah. The world is watching, wondering if we are gonna fuck this up.

We are going to essentially get a pass on Bush. Nobody is happy about how things went, but we are a great nation and we do have a process and it has been respected by all but the clown our Supreme Court selected.

They like Obama not because he is some messiah, but because of his good character.

Given the crap he's had thrown his way, taking the high ground and WINNING with it, has the worlds attention. Again, they are watching to see if we get this wrong.

We won't get a pass on the next guy, BTW.

The only person I know with a "mr. messiah complex" is Broadway.

And BW will be wishing he really was the Messiah by tomorrow night! Sorry, even thy rod and staff can't pull that one off.

You can start praying now, BW, but It ain't gonna help. God will be busy tomorrow night enjoying the "Black Guy With The Muslim Name's" victory.

Fear Not! The End* Is Near!

"the mr. messiah complex we're all seeing these day"

Speak for your pathetic self. Had you written "I'm seeing" rather than "we're seeing" you wouldn't be any less pathetic, but it's hard to have even the smallest amount of respect for your consistently dull-witted attitude and inability to take ownership for your misguided beliefs.

I appreciate the 'third party' perspective about our elections that comes from outside the country. They are not always accurate...but then again, sometimes they are.

How about putting Obamas face on the EBT card?

Atleast the black part, the white part is that part that will get him elected.

He is not really black which is why he will win. Just ask Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.

Yes.

There isn't any other reason for him to lose. Let's assume election meddling isn't a factor.

Obama has a solid message, it's well aligned with our needs, has kept to the higher ground a lot more than most expected, hasn't made any core political mistakes, is working with good people, leveraged his organizational skills to be well funded, and doesn't have any significant gaffes in his past.

That's a solid package, agree politically or not.

By contrast, McCain hasn't done most of those things and isn't posting up a clear message that details how we are gonna get out of the mess that Bush made.

If he wins, then we've managed to convince enough Americans that wedge issues matter more than our fundamental needs and national security do.

And I'm sorry Johnny, but the only people who are really pulling for McCain, are the 23 percenters, who have some axe to grind.

These are the "nothing else matters" people. Might be guns, gays, god, flags, fags, freaks, etc...

It's either that, or they buy into the feed the rich and hope we do better deal, and that's more or less played out to the end, and it just didn't work.

There it is. If you don't vote for Obama you're a racist.

I wondered how long it would be before it ended up in print on the board here.

How about; I didn't vote for him because he's a Democrat. Although that doesn't have enough PC factor for the liberal drama queens.

One wonders how any rational thinking Republican can vote for someone with extraordinary poor decision making skills in crunch moments (Palin). By voting for McCain one dooms the Republicans to keep repeating the same mistakes again in 2012 (Yup, Palin again). Don't you want your party to clean up its act and field better candidates?

For someone who complains often about the same old politicans in office over and over again, yet you're voting for another one. You want term limits yet McCain has been in the Senate nearly 30 years.

If you say you're voting against Obama simply because he's a Democrat then we'll have to conclude that ALL your previous posts ranting against politicans is simply rhetoric.

Obama, Obama,

welcome to one party rule........

Remember, campaigning for 2012 begins November 15th. All prospective candidates from all recognized parties are invited to Iowa for an old fashioned, pre Thanksgiving, meet and greet. Pie and punch will be served.

C'mon everybody, Bill might not be happy with what he perceives to be the future results of an Obama administration. We should give him time to warm up to the first competent Presidency in almost a decade. This has happened before, and later today, it may just happen again.

When the century changes and a dapper populist fellow in his forties is calling for a huge list of changes -- universal healthcare and national medical insurance, the break-up of corporate monopolies, the expansion and enforcement of health and safety regulations, stronger labor unions, environmental protection and conservation, and a call for an antiquated country to take the lead in new technology -- it gets folks stirred up.

When even when his critics admit good things -- "[He is] a great personality, a great activist, a great preacher of the moralities, a great controversialist, a great showman. He dominated his era as he dominated conversations... the masses loved him; he proved to be a great popular idol and a great vote getter." -- a whole lot of doubt still lingers.

Heck, if he were a Democratic candidate, ol' Teddy Roosevelt would have been a hard sell for Bill too.

I dont know how many emails I got during the election season this fall with some version of a Watermelon in the pic tied with the Obama logo or Obama's pic in it or both.

That kind of thing really pisses me off. Same thing as getting a KKK robed figure burning a cross.

Same here.

And good on Littlesongs. I think that's exactly the way to go. Obama is going to be a very interesting leader. Some stuff is gonna change.

I personally believe it's a smart wager, so I'm eager to see it happen. Given where we are now, I don't think there are many ways to go farther down.

And this is the beginning too. A lot of how this will go down will depend on us. There will be no sitting back, waiting for it to happen. A significant fraction of us (23 percenters) are not gonna let their wedge issues die, so that's an ongoing battle. Add to that, those who don't see economic change (undoing trickle down) as a good thing, and we've got up to 8 years of very robust and interesting debate.

All we have really done is step over the line for change. And that's not secure until tonight is over, but probably will get done.

From there we either walk and talk, or we stand firm and nothing happens.

Up to us.

My, don't we live in interesting times?

Missing, I agree that we do live in interesting times.

As I demonstrated, over a hundred years ago, President Roosevelt was a youthful man with a similar platform. He was met with resistance, but the country did change for the better. Our circumstances and challenges are similar in this new century.

Thanks Bill and KW. It is important to recognize that the wingnuts do not speak for all Republicans, just as they do not speak for all Democrats. Once the G.O.P. is purged of the haters, the one-note pianists and the brazen lawbreakers, it could have a bright future. A housecleaning would not hurt the Democratic Party either.

To preserve our democracy, ideologues -- of any stripe -- should never again be given so much power.

****NOT deleted from McCain's speech on October 8****

After referring to the various proposals that comprise his domestic policy agenda, John McCain offered an absolute head-scratcher of a line during a campaign speech on Wednesday.

"Across this country this is the agenda I have set before my fellow prisoners," he declared.

In the prepared remarks he was supposed to say "fellow citizens."

I'm at what's turning out to be quite a large gathering/party at Portland Community College-Sylvania right now. They have a TV with a local station and an online feed of MSNBC. Most of the crowd is booing whenever they project a state is going to McCain, and cheering when one is projected to go to Obama.
Who knows what will happen when the local results come in, and we know the fate of 26-95 (the PCC Bond Measure).

AFAIC (because I can't speak for the official hosts), if you're a member of the local radio/TV media looking for somewhere to find local comment, feel free to come on down.
