It just takes you right back to a certain moment in your life. What's the song, and where does it take you?

Kara Cole's 14th Birthday party, first co-ed birthday party of my life. 1988. INXS "Never Tear Us Apart." Kissed (meaningfully if it can be called that) a girl who went to the "other" middle school in my home town. Yeah... never forget that.

Sweat Pea....listening to KISN and dating a hot summertime bopper-babe @ Shumway Jr. High School..lots of raging hormones driving me to distraction aka anything under 19 years old that was female and a human being got my attention, and I was learning Morse Code to get my Ham radio license...

Light my Fire...The Doors....

Reminds me of KGAL, Lebanon....K-GAL...

Living with friends in Scio, Oregon, a small town between Lebanon and Albany, sort of ...

Working summer jobs for the farmers and then the Cannery in Stayton. Learning to drive on a 1955 Pontiac Chieftain and going to the Drive In Theaters in Lebanon, Albany and Salem on the weekends.

Slower and simpler times then......

Oh and speaking of about 350 of my favorite Oldies...here is something STUPID for your consideration ...

I left my MP3 player in a work shirt and I wound up washing it, two rinse cycles and 2 full spins later...I found it before it got thrown into the dryer.

Pulled open part of the display and control panel and dried it out kicking myself in the arse in the process. It wouldn't boot up...thought I was screwed, next day, I decided to take a chance and plug it in to a USB port on my PC just to see if something happened , the smoke test you know, see if it screwed over my Windows Media MP3 recordings trying to do a transfer into hell or some such thing !

Turns out, all that was wrong was the battery was dead. It charged up and everything works ! I suggest if you buy an MP3 thumb drive, get a Zen V Plus series...evidently they are waterproof.

"Cool Change" by LRB. Directly connected to my first girlfriend back in high school.

"Close to You" by the Carpenters. Was #1 the summer of a very memorable family camping trip.

I'm sure there are many others.

Summer 1970. Yeah, what a summer that was:

Mungo Jerry's "In The Summertime", Teagarden & Vanwinkle's "God Love and Rock and Roll", Vanity Fair's "Hitchin A Ride", Marmalade's "As the Years go By" Neil Diamond's "Cracklin Rosie" and, ahem, Jack Wild's "Wait for Summer".

Chris Alexander played them all at night on KISN.

Hanson "MMMMMbop".

It was a hot summer night in 1997. My girlffiend( who's name was Bonita) told me to come over to her house. Her Parents were on Vacation for the week. So that day I come over to her house, and the next thing I know, we are doing the 'Humpty dumpty" While Hanson's "MMMMbop" is playing on the background.

TRUST ME, its not the type of song you want playing while you're losing your virginity!

Wow, Buns. My respect for you just went up a little bit for getting it on with that song in the background. But That Hanson girl that's the lead singer is pretty hot. ;)

Gotta be "Brandy" by Looking Glass on The Big 11, K-I-N-G taking me right back to suburban community swimming pool with the transistor radio blasting in the sunshine, getting tan and not worrying about it.

Didn't LOOKING GLASS have another hit single
that same year - after 'Brandy'?

I remember listening to Casey Kasem's AT40
and recall that 'Brandy' went to #1 -

-and that war for #1 between Roberta Flack's
'Killing me Softly' and Gilbert O' Sullivan's
'Alone Again Naturally' in 1972 - that was hot

Brandy, Killing me softly, Me and Mrs Jones ( especially that one ) and Alone again naturally all of these on the juke box, remind me of being just 21, and going into a bar legally for the first time to drink after work with all my work peeps. Of course staying to long on a week night, hung over for work the next day and feeling great by 11 am thanks to about 2 pots of coffee and ready to do it all over again....

Oh the carefree silly days of youth !

Haha Al, I was WAY too young to get in a bar! But '72-'73 was probably my favorite era of music. They say that when you first started listening to the radio that usually is your favorite music.

Speaking of the war for #1, in 1971, KISN (and the rest of the top 40 stations in the country) had Three Dog Night's "Joy To The World" as the year's #1 hit while across town's KGW had lameo Raider's "Indian Reservation" as #1. While not really a bad song, but #1? Come on. Somebody at KGW had a connection with the band. Come on, fess up.

I agree....Indian Reservation couldnt hold a candle to " Jeramiah was a bullfrog" ..Thankya Lloyd Thaxton !

And yes, Paul, I agree that when you first listen to the radio is the era that you like music the best. Problem with me is, I started listening to the radio when I was about 3( 1954). My folks gave me a Sears Silvertone 5 tuber just for me in my bedroom...and I could play it pretty much when I wanted to, except at bedtime.

That is why I have Mr. Sandman, Que sera sera, on my MP3 player, along with Lefty Frizzell,Patsy Cline, Bobby Darin, Rick Nelson ( Ozzie and Harriet TV show on Friday nights with Ricky doing his precursor to MTV), Dion, and all the rest of them from the 60s to Disco era clear into the early 90s. Infact I even like DIDO and some of Janet Jackson's recent stuff.

So, I am rather broadband in my pop musical tastes.

"Let's Pretend" - Raspberries Early 70's, probably 73, 74 or so. I was a little kid and had some time on the big tower console, tube, Zenith radio. That one stuck with me. Little ahead of it's time, IMHO (didn't realize that until later, it was just different at the time)

"I'm All Right" - Kenny Loggins Lots of good memories on this one. Caddyshack, parties, friends, goofy fun.

"Don't You (Forget about Me)" - Simple Minds Teresa, and a very wild year! Breakfast Club.

"Sara" - Jefferson Starship - Last tune heard on KSKD.

"No Rain" - Blind Melon, "Strength" - The Alarm, "Cannonball" - The Breeders, "Pets" - Porno for Pyros "All Those Frustrations" - James, and many others about 1993. Enjoying KBBT in AM Stereo during a long commute, living in first house, no kids yet, parties, fun, movies, hard work, no money, no real cares. Great times with Mrs KSKD.

..which poses another interesting question:

Have we practically 'used-up' ALL the melodies and all the lyrics to be composed in this world?

The new music of today for future generations
just doesn't compare to what we've already heard!
