I'm going off to look for different Internet turf to stomp on and maybe invade. I notice when my posts start to become stale (or even more irrelevant, off topic or flat-out stupid than they usually tend to be). Fifteen years spent on the Internet and countless thousands of posts (although I wouldn't really be surprised if it's in, or approaching, almost a million by now) around various forums, boards and BBSes eventually does that to a guy. I am not going to say that Motozak2 was a bad run--781 posts (counting this one) is 726 more than I ever did as "A-zone".

So this is it--effective immediately I am throwing in the towel.

73, all. Be kind to each other.

Good luck from here as well.

Odd though, I've dumped hanging out at other numerous other sites, but not this one. I'm sure its the car wreck factor that keeps me here! :-)

C'mon MotoZak, you can't really be leaving us!! PDX radio is like crack, you keep coming back for another hit. NObody can just walk away from Pdx Radio.

Withdrawl symptoms are the worst! Not being able to have your PDX Radio fix can be deadly! There are many serious side effects like

-Loose stool,
_Sudden urge for B.M.s (Both kinds)
Dry mouth
-Erectile Dysfunction
Dehydration
and many more.

Leave at your own risk!
You've been warned!

Actually, I'd say leaving PDXradio is like leaving the Hotel California - "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave."
Where ever you go and whatever you do, good luck!

===========================
GOOD GOD, I'M AN IDIOT!!!
===========================

Had a change of heart (if not, a change of mind): I am not leaving completely. Although posts will become fewer and farther between than they have been lately......I finally have convinced my boss that I shouldn't be working graveyard shift and now that gas prices are falling, I will be doing courier work as I was a couple years ago when I started here. Unfortunately (fortunately?) this means more time spent away from the computer, but then again, I *do* have two laptops..........

Come to think of it, first time I heard "El Rey" I was on an inter-office courier run between the Coove and Longview. While I may miss out on some decent mediumwave DXing--not working the late nights like I currently do--maybe my next favourite FM station will be discovered this way. Besides, the majority of my MW DXing, in recent times, seems to settle around receiving TTY off 518 kHz, or in my case, the really near vicinity thereof......

(Only this time around I don't have Golden Hours to listen to.....oh well........)

If I only learned one other thing from all this then let it be: NEVER post on a BBS when you are run down from filling in for three different workers at the same time!!

(The month and a half of vacation time I have accrued, which I am taking advantage of at this very moment, should do me well. I have a file of around 8,000 songs recorded off Muzak over the last several months that *really* needs to be cleaned up and I can't seem to talk my Cousin into doing it--dupes removed, weather drop-outs dropped, Christina Aguileria songs scratched out, etc. Maybe during this time-frame I could manage to actually get some *work* done.

Next week: finishing my Xmas shopping.......)

So INeffective immediately I'm throwing in the towel. Looks like I'm here. But still, treat each other kindly!!

I agree! I almost wondered if the database hiccup earlier this month was actually an attempt to re-start discussion here, perhaps in a less confrontational and opinionated manner, without the name-calling and insults.

without the name-calling and insults.

It comes from the top. The president hasn't tried another attempt at deceiving us lately and the vice president hasn't said f*ck you in public (on or off tv).

President-elect Obama will set a less confrontational tone for many internet discussion forums simply by not being deceptive and confrontational himself.

The data bit was just data gone bad.

However, it is a nice, sobering reset don't you think?

Presidents have a very significant impact on our politics. This, more than anything, should underscore just how powerful norms really are! We have law, norms, money and physics that regulate us, or that we can use to regulate others.

If the President sets bad norms, it really does trickle all the way down to people just talking about stuff! This would be an excellent High School object history lesson for sure.

Make a generation or two aware of that, and the chance of us electing another President who would set bad norms goes way down.

I'm quite sure I'm not gonna agree with Obama on a lot of stuff. His tech picks, for example, have been not all that good. (He is considering Lessig, so maybe that's premature.)

Say what you want about the coming policy decisions (and there will be LOTS to say), it's very difficult to paint the discipline he has demonstrated when it comes to setting norms and more importantly living by them.

I KNOW I don't have that kind of character. It's good to see, and something to look up to, rather than down at.

With Bush, I felt as though I was a member of the group of people trying to hold the standard higher. Now, I feel like a member of the group of people trying to meet the bar!

And that's pretty damn cool, if you think about it.
