This begs the question, was the sign stolen as a prank, or out of disapproval for its content?

THE 8th COMMANDMENT
Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.

Yet more evidence of the hypocrisy of the religious right.

But if God told you to steal, it's ok right?

Ask Bob, he will tell you God said so. Blasphemy trumps stealing because it pisses God off.

Some time ago, we got into a discussion on this board about the Ten Commandments and who does or doesn't follow them. I pointed out that owning any artwork depicting spiritual things like angels, Jesus, etc. would be in violation of the commandment against graven images, and any non-worship productive activity, such as cooking, cleaning, or taking out the trash could be argued to violate the "Keep the Sabbath holy" commandment. Somebody fired back that nobody other than Jesus himself is "perfect" enough to be able to follow all of the commandments, and that being a Christian frees one from being bound to these rules that one wouldn't be able to follow anyway. Thus, I see this whole "don't break the Commandments" discussion as a complete sham because the proponents of the commandments will weasel out of any responsibility by saying that they don't have to be taken to task for breaking the rules because strict adherence does not apply to them.

By the way, when I see activists that want the Ten Commandments posted in public places, I just see a bunch of people who want to mark their territory for ideological reasons.

I have to admit, this makes a heck of a lot of sense. Sort of like how male dogs go around establishing their territories.
