It would have been totally Clint Eastwood cool if Bush could have caught both shoes without flinching.

Some needs to teach that guy how to properly throw.

I normally can't even think about giving kudos to Bush but damn he can duck.

This is what they did to statues of Saddam, right?

Yeah. Uh, that could have been a HUGE incident. Seriously. I know it was shoes and I can keep it in perspective, but there is something about an image of a President having to protect himself from ANYthing physical that makes me a little jumpy.

I'm glad we can joke about it. Hell, I've got a few in my head too. But this could have been pretty bad. He's a beaten man. The Democrat in me hates to see stuff like that happen to anyone. Even Bush.

I guess Vitalogy only finds it funny cause he does not like President Bush. I wonder if he would find it funny if Obama was in that situation.

You may not like the guy but I do not ever want to see this happen to the leader of our country and that goes for Obama as well.

imagine if one of our reporters did this to a leader of a muslim country. Do you think he would make it out alive?

He has pretty good reflexes for a 60 year old. I suspect it was from all that baseball he played, ducking foul tips and line drives and the like.

I got a kick out of the expression on his face right after the guy threw the first one at him. He just stood right back up and stared the guy down with a smirk on his face, like try that one again, buddy ! The guy has balls, maybe not to many brains, but he has the macho !

This TV reporter guy wont loose his feet over this one either. They will fire him and he might get fined and shunned for awhile maybe do a little time in the lock up, but the new government there doesnt want any smack with Saddam's regime , especially over something where no one was killed or injured.

No matter what you think of "W" he has always been " The Sheriff" . And it is obvious that he still is.

Nope. The truth.

If they will lop your hand off for stealing, what do you think they would do for assaulting the leader of the free world??

Maybe we can negotiate with them. Yeah, right.

Nope, not the truth. Maybe he'll get beheaded in Iran, but probably not in Turkey or certain African nations -- nations that consist of mostly Muslims.

To generalize like this makes one a bigot. Not all Muslims are American-hating savages, just like not all white guys are gun-toting accidents waiting to happen. See?

Mc74: I think Bush deserves it. The ironic part about the whole thing is that he didn't think a second shoe would come flying his way.

I don't think Obama has to worry about someone throwing shoes at him. He's got respect whereas Bush is a laughing stock.

Watch out for the Flash online video game, "Shoe The Bush" where Bush moves left and right and you have to initiate the shoe throw with a mouse click. Sometimes the Iraqi Prime Minister puts his hand out to block you. Each level increases the speed by which Bush moves left and right and how many times your shot gets blocked by the PM. There's probably some guy out there right now doing the art work so that he can drop it to a pre existing piece of code from an arcade game.

First off, I never said anything about Muslims. (Or Turkey or any African nations for that matter. And he was in Iraq when it happened. If you had read the article you'd know that)

Second, Its not the Muslims that are the problems its the whacko governments in some of those middle eastern countries.

And thirdly Kennewickman is probably right. The new Iraqi government doesn't want to seem like the sicko Saddam regime so they'll probably let him off with a slap on the wrist.

As long as they don't slap it with a sword, he'll be OK!

You disagreed with my response to mc74's comment on Muslim countries (NOT Iraq or Iran). You said "Nope. The truth."

**************

Anyway, Bush had no business going there even with only a remote possibility of stirring things up. Everything he does STILL turns to sh*t. The Sheriff act has resulted in hundreds of million f*cked up lives in Iraq, the United States and around the world. This incident makes it just a little bit harder for Obama to turn things around.

This is hardly a humorous incident -- its a rude reminder Bush isn't done f*cking us up.

Yes, I also question the wisdom of this Presidential appearance for that one last 'photo op " with this Mahlaki fellow. My impression is and always was that the post Saddam Iraqi government in general has only regarded the Bush administration as some kind of necessary evil to deal with the totally screwed up beyond all reason post invasion " mission accomplished" fiasco mis-engineered by our old curmudgeon and nemesis, Donald Rumsfeld with Bush's approval of course.

This post Saddam era needs to be handled with the Iraqis doing all the front work, and the US government, military and contractors far far in the background and eventually gone all together. To fly over there on some " farewell to the Bush leadership tour" like some other deludinoid personae like Michael Jackson for one example, only shows more of the current administration's prism filtered rosy red delusional denial ridden attitude that made this whole Iraqi freedom operation such a friggin' disaster in the first place !

"The shoe toss presser" just puts a nice exclamation mark on the whole sordid 6 year affair ,IMHO. However, when one considers the poor planning invovled with "Iraqi freedom" from the get go, this incident doesnt surpise me at all.

CC is getting $161 MILLION over 7 years and if his manager wants him to throw at the batter so be it.

Your taking this as insult MC. He didn't throw it at you he threw it at DUHbya. And like you have said before he is a lame duck and leaving soon so who cares.... Unless you've changed your mind? Flip-flop?

Well if this ever happens to Obama you will not see me act the way most of you here are acting.

I dont think its funny to see the leader of our country attacked in any form in another country or here. Republican or Democrat.

My guess is that the secret service took him out back and kicked the living shit out of him so that atleast makes me happy.

It is alarming that the POTUS was apparently in danger (who knew the guy didn't have a bomb in his shoe or something?). I don't care whether it's Bush or Obama.

However, the reaction of Iraqis to this incident is very telling. The journalist who threw the shoes (now in jail) is a national hero, and protesters have been demonstrating for his release! On NPR this morning, every Iraqi they interviewed praised the journalist's actions. Just goes to show you how appreciative they are of Bush for "liberating" them and then occupying their country for five years and running it in to the ground.

Bush has been in greater danger from a bowl of pretzels. Everyone in the room had been screened for weapons. There was nothing there of a serious danger to the president.

The soles of the shoe are considered the worst sort of filth in Muslim cultures. It is an insult to even cross your legs at the knee, lest you show the sole of your shoe to the person you're meeting/visiting with. Muslims remove their shoes before entering homes or mosques, and carry them with the soles together in their left (non-hand-shaking, non-eating) hand.

This was the cultural equivalent of someone mooning a world leader during a press conference in this country.

(Yeah...yeah. A thrown shoe could have caused an owie... but as I said, pretzels have done worse.)

And BTW it was the Iraqi security forces that ' Kicked the shit out of our wild TV reporter " . Broken ribs and some cuts and bruises on his face. An investigation by the Iraqi government is being conducted now to determine if these injuries were meted out in the ensuing mele', or after the fact, which this guy's brother says might have occured, in his opinion.

The big point to make here is that at least in Iraq now, people of dissenting voice are free to express it, without having their voice box cut in two pieces for expressing it ! You couldnt have made it out alive doing something like that in a presser with the President of Iraq and a visiting head of state during the Saddam regime ! Get friggin' real people !

Well, you can bet ur "sweet bippie" that on NPR EVERY Iraqi interviewed would have " that opinion". NPR being typical NPR and safe haven for every single far left wonk in the country. Again, Get Real !

Yes, a lot of sympathy in the Arab world. But so what ? What else is new ? They burn the American flag or effigies of whatever American President it is at the drop of the proverbial hat anyway. Just another excuse for justifying some more tribal like bullshit mideast bad behavior from Lebannon to Pakistan. Ya, rally around the star and sithe ! Big deal !

Oil or no Oil, those people over there need to keep their dumbass 7th century behavior in THEIR part of the world and we need to keep our Military the HELL out of their part of the world and devolope new sources of energy for the good of the planet and the good of our economy.

And now I will stand down from my soapbox !

That will be the very least of his worries.

>>Everyone in the room had been screened for weapons.

Great...now all Arab country press events have to be in sox.

>>It is an insult to even cross your legs at the knee

Good grief...don't go to a Evangelical church this sunday and get insulted.
