Yup its true kids, I heard Metallica on KGOn today at around 12:45.
It sounds to me like some major musical changes are taking place on KGON. Im starting to hear a LOT more 90's bands. Whats next Nirvana and STP?? I never thought the day would come that i would actually hear Metallica on a Classic rock station.

I guess it's getting into the "classic" genre.

I want to turn over and vomit every time I hear REM however. I don't see how that can classify as "classic rock", maybe I am just jaded. Losing My Religion makes me want to lose my lunch.

I agree Brian, REM in my opinion is the most overrated band in the country! AWFUL! Please tell me that KGON is NOT playing REM, That will be an alltime low if they are. For some odd reason the folks over at KINK think that "everybody Hurts" is the greatest song ever. Everytime I turn on that station they are playing it.

...and everybody hurts huh?

Sorry.

I like REM. (but other things on KINK make me hurt, so it's still punishment radio in that regard.)

They have produced a lot of material. Easy to go a bit deeper with them and get some fresh sounds.

I know a lot of people like REM KSKD ... and yes Justin, they seem to play Losing My Religion quite a bit. It isn't in super-heavy rotation but enough to nauseate me.

It's more than just not liking the band, I don't see how it fits in with the rest of KGON's material. Seems like a fish out of water to me.

You guys realize that at 12:45 it is the time they are doing "connect the classics" right?

The new "Everything that Rocks" can also include Metallica into that. If it was played during that time it was more of a request that most likely a regular item in there playlist. But as a regular I would not mind a little more Metallica and GNR!

KGON has to move their playlist forward at some time or risk losing some of the younger range of their demo to other stations and playing into the (sorry no offense) over 55 no advertisers want group! We will probably see a gradual shift away from classic rock to the everything that rocks format but they will probably keep the bulk of their playlist in the late 70's, 80's, and into the mid 90's. I don't see them getting into grunge anytime soon....HOPEFULLY.

On Connect the Classics, rules (except the ones from the FCC) are out the window and we'll play soul, alternative, metal, Sinatra, whatever...

That's part of the fun. By the way, I played Enter Sandman back in July as part of that feature, and the response was so good, we keep getting requests for that and other Metallica on a regular basis. I'm sure Glo is having a ball with the feature. I sure miss it.

Oh, and just for the record, we played REM when they were brand new. I remember seeing them at the Roseland, (Starry Night) 23 years ago when we were playing them. We also played GNR, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Inxs, Billy Idol, Melissa Etheridge, The Ramones, Blondie, etc...as new artists and even did "Catch a Rising Star" 92 cent concerts with a lot of those bands. As far as defining Classic Rock, it's pretty much up to the audience and the times. But KGON played all this stuff when it was new. It's fun to have it back on the airwaves when it works.

It's so nice to be connected to the world from home again.

Okay, it's time for my nap. My stamina isn't what it was, but I'm working on it.

IRIS...

Let's just keep that low key OK......don't want to see any....um....how can I say this politically correct....ahh heck with it....the modern "Noise & Static" they are putting in the Rock section's these day's!

No offense FatBoy but Tool blow's chunks! Justin.....you were right dude! Go ahead and say it...you told me so!

Give me "Heavy Metal" From Sammy any day! Or even Metallica "The Unforgiven, Enter the Sandman, Nothing Else Matters" will work as well!
