The show is great when they dont spend 4 hours talking about Britney.

And Sarah brings nothing to the show. They fired her once, lets hope it happens again.

It's a literate, smart, and informed show that doesn't make you so mad that it ruins your day. I've got no problem with that Sarah person. At least she's not a giggle machine. This show needs to be on a bigger station.

The Rick Emerson show needs Sarah Dylan as a counterbalance, you don't realize it until she's absent but without her the show is without direction

Nah, I think she brings it down. Just when Rick gets to talking geek talk like the whole audience wants to hear, Sarah chirps in and complains.

I think she is the reason the show has turned into TMZ radio. She is a gossip queen.

Rick recently played a very bad Obama tribute song and made fun of it, then turned around and stole the idea to make his own.

His idea is to see if he can get it played on some wacky radio station.

For me "The Rick Emerson Show" is just refreshing, after sampling the political dribble on the other channels daily.

The refreshing part of The Rick Emerson Show is that it's about NOTHING. Just a bunch of stuff inside Rick's head all rolled up into 4 hours.
I for one don't mind Sarah and notice that she does bring a little balance to the show.
But when Tim Riley is gone the show is F'ed up not when Sarah is gone....

I used to be a die hard KXL and KPAM fan, until AM 970 got fine tuned; now I switch between the three. Here are my thoughts:


Rick's show/ AM 970 fills an important niche within the Portland radio market. If Rick was a tad more confrontational, he'd easily rule nationally.
Sara sounds fine; She is the social butterfly counter balance to the anti social geek which Rick admits that he is.

Tim Riley is a funny guy, and should be on TV.

Timmy Ryan is an interesting character. What stations is he not on, though?


My only real critiques of the station is the lack of more live programming. The only live show I hear is Rick's.

Rick uuuuhh Emerson is a pretty uuuuuuuh good radio host but uuuuuuh he is pretty hard to uuuuuuuuh listen to sometimes. I've also never uuuuuuhh been able to call into the uuuuuuuuh show becuase I can't figure out where how to dial "uuuuuhhh".

Sarah's role is odd. She really doesn't add that much interesting to the show, but I think she is a big part of what keeps Rick interesting.

Tim Riley is amazing. Truly one of the most entertaining radio personalities I've ever heard.

Timmy Ryan detracts far more than he adds. His '70 seconds' bit may be the most appropriately named segment on air. "70 seconds" = "change presets."

I hated the way they treated Scotty J. I ended up not listening for months just because that annoyed me so much.

Sarah does add to the show, but it is difficult to put your finger on it. I've been a listener since before she joined and have taken the Emerson roller coaster ride.

I am less geek than the average Emerson listener, so I get bored when they get deep into Star Wars and the like. When Sarah is absent from the show, it can go horribly off the geek-deep-end. She really keeps the show on track (mostly) and what she adds is more obvious when she is not there.

I've been listening to Rick off-and-on since the pre-syndication days, and I'm now a dedicated podcast listener. The show is great for people who like talk radio but aren't interested in sports or politics or god-damned irritating Dr. Laura drivel.

I agree that Sarah is needed to keep the show on track... as for Scotty J., he was a bad fit for the show as well as not particularly good at his job. The contrast with Richie is striking.

It's great to see the show finally getting some support from management instead of being the redheaded stepchild.

I've been a long time listener (and never time caller, so far). I pretty much agree with Larrybud. I'm older than thier target demo, but I can relate to much of the content. Only when they go over the deep end of geekdom do I lose interest. That doesn't happen very often.

Besides, Rick and I have the same birthdate, so I will always be a "glorious bastard".

Rick's show makes me smile every day. For me, I like local talk radio and listening to Rick's show reminds me that I live in Portland.

As for Tim, he is marvelous. I just wish he was more involved with the show. I love when he talks about his past radio gigs and shares his likes/dislikes for television. I usually do not listen on the days that he is gone because the fill-in hosts do not even rate.

As for Sarah, I agree with the others that she seems to control the show. She seems to keep Rick on track.

As for Scotty J, I miss him. Not really sure why, but I do I miss him. Ritchie is growing on me, though.

I do wish 970.am had more local programming. As much as I like Don & Mike, I'd love to hear a local show at this time of night.

50 loyal and unemployed fans listeening to "Emerson's Club" everyday barely making at dent in ratings at the mighty CBS Radio.

I will agree on one thing, Emerson and Riley have talent, but with no one to watch over them, it is un-listenable every day.

As for that fat cow Sarah, she blew it when she f*ck 94/7 doing mornings with Greg Glover, then had a chance with traffic at KOIN. But decided to join her "club" and hitch her huge wagon to Emerson's Fantasy Clubhouse Radio Show and will never ever get a decent break in radio again. It's really too bad she got so fat, so was pretty damn hot at one time with a smoking body, but thats all over now that she let herself go.

I don’t want to come across as a hater, but I could never get into the Rick Emerson Show. I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t find it appealing.

While I am for open discussion on this board, I am totally against PERSONAL attacks on someone, ESPECIALLY regarding ones weight.

First off, "Jenifer Marlow" was a character on WKRP, which tells us that this person is old enough to remember the show. Strike one. Mid 30's- early 40's?

JM also knows alot about the " inside info" about going on about Entercom; however claims not to work there. Uh huh;. Strike two.

JM also has alot of anger towards Rick and Sarah-who as I recall used to work at Entercom

This tells me that JM is a male, between 30-41, working at Entercom , that is angry at the talent of Rick's, and the good looks of Sara; and as pointed out might have asked out Sarah, and been turned down. This person HAS to sound familiar to someone at Entercom.

I do not know Rick, or Sarah. I do know, however, that Rick and Sarah make a good team on the air, and that " Jenifer Marlow" is making Entercom look unprofessional.

Could someone please provide a source for this supposed "Entertainer of the Year" award that Rick has received 3 years running? I hear the promos, it's mentioned in the post above, it's even on the show's Wikipedia page with a "citation needed."

Perhaps I just don't know what I'm looking for but I'd like to find an Internet reference that would say who gives this award, who else was considered, who the past winners were, etc.
