I thought this was a publicity stunt, but it doesn't sound like it.
I liked Artie Lange and thought he was really funny, a lot better than jackie. I wonder if he will come back to the show or not?

I heard it happen live, and I don't believe it was a publicity stunt. There's a lot of "personal demon" history with Artie Lange and he's said before that the hours he works are killing him. Well, it's more than hours killing that guy.

He's also said that he can't leave anything (job, relationship, etc) on good terms because of his need to people-please, and that it takes a blowup to force his hand. Looks like it's been forced.

There's also the issue of Stern or Sirius taking any liability for knowing they've continued to employ a proven hothead who can't keep his fists to himself.

Love Artie a lot, but he needs to lose weight, stop his chemical intake and get some anger-management help. Until then, maybe some time away from the show will only help.

That is too bad because Artie Lange is extremely talented and hilarious. That is a big loss to the Howard Stern show because he is a HUGE part of the show.

This is a schtick that Stern has used all his career...He will swell on this for 2 weeks..and get him back in the picture.....Artie is most likely laying on a beach in Maui right now waiting for the green light to return.

Yeah, some how I figured it might be a schtick. If it is a Sctick he had me fooled. This is Radio, so I shouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was false. If Artie is back on the show in a few weeks we will know for sure that this was just a schtick!

Drowning his sorrows in a plate of food, in Maui no doubt. So does Arbitron have a way of including Sirius' 130 channels in their market assesments, I am wondering???

Mikeolb- You have been had! This was a publicity stunt and YOU fell for it. Im sure the Howard Stern show has been planning this bit ever since they moved to sirius. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Watch as Artie will be back in 2 weeks.

Time will tell, Buns. I personally believe it's the real deal this time around, just from the goofy, back-door way it all unfolded in the studio.

In the meantime, there's no doubt that Artie needs some help... on a number of levels. Whether this is schtick or not, if it gives him some time to go straighten-out, then it's served a good purpose all 'round.

Kennewickman: the missus and I just got done doing Arbitron diaries for a week, and they ask about ALL radio listening... AM, FM, satellite, etc. If you mark "satellite", they want to know "Sirius or XM" and the channel number.

Okee dokee, well Sirius in the ARB might explain a lot here, on this particular subject...eh?? The "why and wherefores" of this so called 'on air rift'...

Is Survivor real? Real World? Breaking Bonaduce? This is reality radio with real people in real situations in a very contrived environment. I've heard every show since the show appeared on KUFO and I think this one is real. He may be back - but why does that make it unreal? Heck my parents were divorced for several years then reconciled. I don't think that was schtick.

If you have been listening to the show since it came on KUFO than you should know that this is a schick.

If this was real, than Artie just assaulted a co-worker, which is a HUGE DEAL! If this was real(which I highly doubt it was), there is no way he would be back in the air in a couple of weeks, Infact in most companies he would be terminated on the spot. If he is back on the air in 2 weeks, than this was all a bit!

As I said on April 14, he was supposed to be in Amsterdam at that time.

Well, they did go there.
And now they are back.

And Artie Lange was on the show today. He apologized (?) and everything is back to normal.

As others said, it was a shtick.

Nope...it's not a shtick. Consider a couple of points if you will.

(1). Sirius is a commitment. The usual ratings ploys don't work when you have to buy the radios and associated gear, go through the sign-up procedure and pay your yearly (or semi-yearly) rates. One doesn't go through that procedure just to see if a sidekick's returning to a show on Monday. That's only done when you can hit the AM or FM button, check-in and check out.

(2). Stern has built his reputation on running an honest show...warts and all. He doesn't need (or use) manufactured gimmicks to increase his audience share. Like him or don't, but Stern has managed to get to where he is with a no-bullshit policy. Everything he's done has been done without lying or made-up shenanigans.

If you know Stern and his core audience, you'd know that they wouldn't stand for a shtick because it runs directly against the grain of what he's all about.

Sorry, but your "I told you so" tells us nothing.

That was a shtick Mikeolb. Sorry I'm not buying it and I won't believe that it was real unless I hear it from the real source. This was a publicity stunt that got people talking about the show, which is exactly what they wanted. I had a co-worker at my work discussing Artie Lange leaving. Top of the mind awareness. Howard has been doing this type of stuff FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!

"Sorry, but your "I told you so" tells us nothing."
First off, it was not an "I told you so". I am sorry to give that impression.

Maybe shtick was not the correct statement. I, personally, don't care whether it was or not nor do I care. Don't care for Artie all the much anyway. He has become more boring and predictable than anything else.

Having said that, all I am saying is that prior to the vacation, they built up that Artie and Teddy were going to Amsterdam. That is why I said they were supposed to be in Amsterdam over the weekend.
Today, Artie is back on the show. I haven't heard it yet but read recaps. I have it in MP3 and will listen to it maybe this coming weekend unless I have some free time. Perhaps that will shed some light on the situation.
Unless you are a big Stern fan the show has been becoming more dull and boring lately. More idle chitchat among staff and less of good guests and they have been kinda short on interesting "stunts/games" since New Years.

I see they have a recap of the show with their written explanations on howardstern.com. You can go there and see what they say and make up your own mind whether it was real or not.

Yep!

That's the cool thing about America! I can have my opinion and you can have yours and we can still respect each other.

That's also the cool thing about Sirius. Lots of choices.

This from All Accesss:

-----------Stern "Wack Packer" Kenneth Keith Kallenbach DEAD------------

Condolences to family and friends of HOWARD STERN "wack packer" KENNETH KEITH KALLENBACH, who died from pneumonia at 39 while in custody in a PENNSYLVANIA jail.
KALLENBACH came to STERN's attention when he claimed to be able to blow cigarette smoke from his eyes; he was a frequent guest on the show and parlayed his STERN notoriety into acting and stand-up comedy gigs. He died THURSDAY morning while being held in a DELAWARE COUNTY prison after an arrest for allegedly attempting to pull a girl into his car in UPPER CHICHESTER, PA last month.
