After 21 years as "Magic"...Eugene's KMGE has morphed into the new 94-5 Mix FM! The station is running jockless with "mix tags" at the end of every song. The format is a brighter, more contemporary AC.

Wow, really? No station has EVER called their station " MIX" before! And maybe, just maybe, they can REALLY think out of the Box and put in their imaging somewhere: "A better mix of todays hits, yesterday favorites, and no annoying talk!"

And we wonder why radio's ratings are plumeting!
The same boring cliche's, cookie cutter formats, and lack of personalities.

I've never seen things this bad, and boring in my 30 years in the biz.

This hits the nail on the head. Click and enjoy!

HAAAAAAA! That video truly made my day! It really does hit the nail on the head.

And Eugenebob, you could not be more correct regarding the utter lack of originality in station imaging today. ZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

It sounds like the only casualty was Clarke Moore. I think it was about retirement for him anyway. Thier new site is boring , have not listened much since they started "Mix"

I can't think of a more BORING,uninerested format than a Mix format. Talk about generic branding. I don't think anyone takes the Mix stations seriously. AND I have never known a station that uses the Mix title to stay around very long. Sounds like their format is pretty dull too. Thanks for bringing more dreaded, worn out phil collins songs that nobody wants to hear for the 10th million time.
I can feel it coming in the air tonight......................AHAHAHAHA
somebody make it stop!

Once again PD Jeff Baird has sunk what was a good station into oblivion and the numbers will prove it soon enough. Most of the former MRB staff- cast and crew are across the road at Star102.3/ KPNW Dennis, Terry, Diana, Matt, Alan and more. I feel bad for Clarke Moore if he was indeed let go. Way to go Jeff!
Out of the area PD comes in and screws it all up in less than three years.
This could not have been done without the approval of patriarch
John Tilson who until now, made everything he touched turn to gold. He should find a better consulting firm. Soon! Mark my words "They will lose listeners everyday" The above posts are right on the money!!!! No personalities, same old songs with borrowed music from New Country (crossover), Trying to Emulate the BOB-FM to much, But as you can all surmise it's no longer about the person who tunes in its about the revenue they generate and nothing more! MRB could play Polka and as long as they have airtime sold. They could care less about the listener.
Even before the change the morning show was so lame with no continuity between the jocks.

They way Jeff comes across is very pompus. Same old music just a new name. Tilson must be smokin' some really good shit over there if he thinks this type of "re-branding" is going to work.
Listeners are NOT stupid. They can and will see right through the crap. Just blow the damn thing up and make it a real station, maybe try a "real"
HOT AC. Go from the charts they might have a hit..but playing the same crap as before is just lame.

While I don't necessarily concur with some of the comments above, the voiced "mix tags" (song identification) at the end of every song are reminiscent of 1970s automation from 10 inch reels.

If I remember correctly, Clarke Moore retired awhile ago, and was later asked to come back via voice tracks.

>>I don't think anyone takes the Mix stations seriously. AND I have never known a station that uses the Mix title to stay around very long.

True in Portland (95.5, 106.7 and at least one more I'm forgetting) but it seems to have worked in many other places. Eugene may be the last Arbitron rated market in the country to get a "mix" station. :-)

My take is adding a few recent songs is better than none at all. 94.5 was a de facto oldies station too long, head-to-head too much with Kool 99.1. This move will help somewhat to differentiate themselves from Kool (and perhaps from Cool as well :-)).

Out of curiosity how is "Movin" doing in comparison to "Mix" in PDX? Did they gain or lose ground after the flip?

They had to have lost listeners. Mix was a decent station with good LIVE TALENT! MOOOVIN is a ridiculous Jukebox that plays stale songs that nobody wants to hear. Hopefully they will be MOVIN out soon, and a REAL station will come along with LIVE air talent.

I still Miss Rock hits 1075. That was a great station, with fun LiVE airtalent. Stacey Lynne and Tim Taylor ROCKED! I can bet that the reason why that station tanked was because of the Bob Rivers Show.

We're in full 100% agreement here!
Also, you're forgetting Woodman/Michael Wood (I hope that's how you spell his first name) and Crystal Cash (now on KUFO overnights/early mornings, right?), who were also on the station.

IS Bowel Movin 1075 off the air yet?? That station is so painfully bad, so cheaply ran, and so non involved that it does not deserve to be on the dial anymore. Plus I don't get why they fired Stacey Lynne.
Blow the station up, and bring something To portland that is actually listenable.

An EXCELLENT point. They are indeed! In fact, in my view this is actually a "plus" of the station's new format. But then I am an OLD guy (52) and as strange as it may sound to some of you, I actually fondly remember the days of 1970s automated radio.

This may be an awful thing to say on this website to a bunch of wonderful people who have devoted their lives to careers as DJs, but I'm not the world's biggest fan of disc jockey "yak yak." I just like to hear music and then find out who the artist was. The "Mix tags" accomplish that.

Now all that the station would have to do is occasionally do a tag at the intro of a song instead of always at the end, and also insert some time announcements ("It's 2:48 in Eugene at Mix FM"), and it would start sounding pretty close to the old Drake-Chenault "Hit Parade" or "Solid Gold" automated formats from 30 years ago.

Could this in Eugene be the start of an old idea becoming new again? Are there any other stations ANYWHERE also doing song ID tags?

Who needs a "mix tag" to identify songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s? The lack of DJ's on Bob-FM, for example, has never bothered me, because I already know who sang Little Red Corvette.
A station that could use these tags, however, is 95.3 The Moose, because they play current songs by new artists. That has always bugged me, and I've wondered why the record labels don't impose some kind of guidelines that the names of the artists must be announced. Otherwise, how can we go out and buy (or download) the album? The only option is to Google portions of the song lyrics.

Clarke Moore poppin' in to say that the best job of my 47 years in radio has been the last 15 years with McKenzie River Broadcasting. Since so many of my peers have had a sad ending to their radio career, I consider myself very fortunate to have earned a living doing what I love through my 65th birthday. You know you've got a good job when you'd rather go to work than have time off. That's the way I felt about being employed by John Tilson and working with Jeff Baird.

I posted my sign-off from "Magic" on YouTube. If you'd like to give it a listen, here's the link...

Sparklewave, I think Robin will probably chime in on that one about the Moose, but that's the advantage to "live" bodies on the air. We can answer those questions when the brain is working properly. I'm one of those that has 50,000 plus titles in my head, but can't grab it from just a couple of words when a listener asks me, it's more like "name that tune" when I hear notes. Keep the faith, we all try the best we can at making it all work with less and less.

The Jeff and Jess morning show returned on Monday, and I heard Liz Kelly on in the afternoon. Other than that, the station appears to be running jockless.

OK gang...its been just over 3 weeks. What is everybody thinking and talking about. It's sooo hard to re-package the same type of music with a different name. Yes they have added some Hot AC stuff...but please drop the crap of Elton/Rod and others. The morning show has no talent what so ever. Liz Kelly jas soo much talent she should be in a larger market.
