There's a new Willie Nelson biography coming to a book store near you. Will there be more details about his days at KVAN 910 as a disc-Jockey? We will know soon. This from The Dallas Morning News:

Word on the street is that not only is it a pretty good read, but also a decent smoke.

Thank you... I'll be here all night... tip your waitress!

Nicely played. I'd nominate the above for Post of the Month.

Sheesh, I can't believe Willie Nelson is already 75 years old.
That is shocking because he doesn't look a day over 75.

That guy has always looked old. His face turned to leather when he turned 20. He aged quicker than anyone I have ever known. It must be all the weed he smokes, that or he smokes more than just weed!

I always figured Willie looked exactly like what he was.... a Texas rancher who spent too much time in the sun between the ranch and golf. And He's legendary for not allowing anything stronger than weed anywhere near him or his tours.

And compared to certain decade-younger-at-least Rolling Stones...he looks like America's Next Top Model.

This is off topic, but I'll tie it in: Speaking of deterioration over time, Gordon Lightfoot now sounds like Willie Nelson when he sings. I have a Rhapsody subscription, and I've been listening to some of the Gordon Lighfoot library lately. The guy must be a really heavy smoker, because his voice went from robust to very constricted sounding. More so than just the normal effects of age. I listened to an album from about every seven years from the 70's until now, and it's actually kind of scary. It makes me want to quit smoking.

That reminds me: I heard a version of "Reason To Believe" on KINK, when they were doing their "5 decades of KINK", awhile back. They labeled it as being from the 60s and I've never heard it before. It almost sounded like it could have been Rod Stewart before his voice started to get raspy. It had about the same timbre but I never would have thought it was he if it hadn't been one of his songs. This was a completely different version from either the flipside of "Maggie Mae" or the later hit. Would anyone else sing that song before Rod? That reminds me of something else: Today, I heard "I Shot the Sheriff" by Bob Marley. I always assumed it was a Clapton composition!

1. Reason To Believe was COVERED by Rod. It is a folk classic written by Tim Hardin.

2. Gordon Lightfoot blew out an aortic artery a number of years ago, and was for many weeks not expected to survive. He beat all the odds, but as he admitted at his concert here a few months ago, both his high range and his low range, as well as a bit of his wind, are shot. But it was so great to see him upright and sober it was OK.

3. Marley wrote I shot the Sheriff. Just because someone sings a song does not mean they wrote it.

Thanks Terry! It makes a lot of sense that the version I heard was by Tim Hardin, since KINK used to play a significant amount of his songs. As soon as I heard Marley's version, I was sure he wrote the song. I just assumed Clapton wrote it, since he has a history of writing songs and yes, I know what happens when you ASSUME! Under this reasoning, I suppose you could say that Lennon/McCartney must have written "Ain't She Sweet" and "My Bonnie", since they wrote other songs. I wonder if anyone at ASCAP or BMI(whichever one it is) ever gets confused and sends Barry Manilow a check for "I Write The Songs".

I got really cheesed off when one of Rod Stewart's CDs stated "All songs written by Rod Stewart".... incuding the Dylan classic Forever Young!!
