Brooke Communications has blown up Roseburg's original radio station, 1490 KRNR (Classic Country)...to launch "The Score" (ESPN Sports) 1490 KSKR and 101.1 KSKR-FM! The Oldies format, "Cool FM" is also gone! :-(

(oh goody another ESPN station and simulcast to boot)

why bother? wanna do one? oh well, but both in the same market? Those ought to be real money makers now........

Why do two radio stations need to get blown up to do this? It would make sense if the two stations complemented each other's coverage areas. However, the AM station service area fits inside the FM station service area.

They must have really lousy ground conductivity in Roseburg, as the KSKR-AM "local" contour, according to Radio-Locator, only extends about 10 miles from the transmitter site.

KSKR... 1kw on 1490... with lots of mountains around...

Of course you realize they probably blew up two automated stations for this... I doubt anybody lost a job over it.

Both stations had live/local personalities, not long ago.

KSKR's website is: www.kskrthescore.com

950 has always traversed fairly well.

950 in the 'burg traversed very poorly due to lack of maintenance on the transmitter and tower for at least a decade before being purchased by JPR.

JPR recently increased the power and bought a new transmitter, now that station does travel pretty well.

730 out of Winston also travels well but that is 10kw.

I was thinking of the old days. I'd pick up KYES right after Cottage Grove and be able to listen until KBOY started coming in.
