Inthemiddle (of two dudes), I think you're the first one to ever notice Lars doesn't have a swimmer's body! I mean what an ass Lars is for spending 14 hours a day developing the most listened to show in the market instead of hitting the weights and treadmill. You hit the nail on the head, what business does a person with more than 20% body fat have being on the radio!?! That's why I read this board, to get your opinion on body type. To quote another KXL host, "liberalism is a mental disorder." And in my opinion, so is jealousy. Only you can prevent pointless, hatefull, worthless postings on an otherwise entertaining and informative board.

Another jealous joker with nothing real to offer on the subject. Lars is fat, true, but I've seen MUCH fatter. Lars is slime, you wouldn't know. It's easy to talk shi* when you're a pawn in a man's world. Take your angry ass down to the ACLU and see if they'll give you a shoulder to cry on. "I'm so broken up, that damn Lars is so fat and he makes more in a week than I do all year." I bet you're a real peach to hang out with.

Kiqman,
Lars is fat. So what? Someone else pointed that out. So what? You came across in your posts as a complete idiot? So what?

I caught Lars on "Verdict" with Dan Abrams last night on MSNBC. I would not have recognized him if it wasn't for his voice and his ridiculous opinions. Clearly he's living high off the hog. Lars was on to claim that the new Disney movie "WALL-E" is a liberal brainwashing movie. Funny thing is, Disney is far from a liberal company. He looked incredibly stupid in his position, failed to prove his point, and got schooled by Abrams and the other guest.

"Lars is slime, you wouldn't know."

I'm sure you'd have a similar view if he threatened you and your families lives.

I'm done. Wasted enough time on Lars already.

...threatened your family's life!?! That must have been very hard on you. I'm sure the law will take care of him for making death threats. You poor, poor soul, I hope you're all able to adjust and move on.

Lars is using his talent and making some great cash doing it. Because of that there a many of you posters who are upset it isn't you.

I worked with Lars when he anchored the news at 12. He was opinionated and, at times, argumentative; but always cordial. Lars also has a personal side that is compassionate, empathic and kind.

He is gifted at what he does and because some of you don't have the gift, you are jealous. This is why Lars is an easy target for those who have not achieved what he has.

Its not about Lars and his talent and position, its really about some of you who can't accept the reality that Lars has made it in a very competitive arena of talk radio.

I am not apologetic about Lars, he pisses me off, too. Remember its the message, not the messenger.

Amen Radiohead, Not a man-crush, he’s just a close friend of mine. I'm apt to get defensive anytime someone bashes a friend, although I understand that Lars’ show can really push folks’ buttons. The comments on here weren’t about his show; they were about his weight, which is stupid and childish. I say save the jealousy and whining for your myspace page. I merely call ‘em like I see ‘em when some fool starts talking out his ass. Happy Independence Day!

Because someone has an opinion about Lars Larson doesn't mean they're speaking out of their ass. If Lars wants to be a star, then Lars deserves star treatment. And in this day and age, it may include remarks about his weight. Celebrity is not an altruistic endeavor.

You are right, Kiqman. When arguments appear against the man rather than against his position, you know that Lars has hit a nerve. That nerve has, most likely, been struck over and over since he began working on the radio side of broadcasting.

I don't care for Tom Lykis, but I'll bet there are some good things about that "soulless wretch" that we are not aware of.

Speaking of talk show hosts, you gotta hand it to The King, Rush, $400mill!
I love the media's reaction: "should Rush Limbaugh get $400million?"
I don't know should Alex Rodriguez? Tiger Woods? Katie Couric? Should anyone?
AM radio is alive today due to Rush.
The trickle down economics he has brought to this industry deserves a thank you from those of us who are in sales, programming, traffic and on air and are still working because Rush, and the many copy cats kept AM alive.
I may not like the guy, but I am man enough to give him his props!

If Lars could make the same amount of money being a liberal talk show host, he would do it. He is not really as much of a jerk as he comes across on the radio as a conservative. when he was a straight newsman, he was the best in Portland, so it stands to reason he is the best at whatever he does.

I'll go with Blogman on this one. Lots of us have known Lars for 30 years or more, and have warmth and respect for everything about the guy except, for some of us, his political views. His reinvention from super-newsguy to pugnacious fight-picking provocateur is paying off handsomely. Talk about branding. We should all be so disliked.

It is a bit ironic that in other threads on this board, many of us lament that personalities are sorely missing from today's radio. Yet on this thread, a successful, HOMEGROWN personality is being discussed, and some folks rush to point out all the bad things about him and only the bad things. Lars sits in a studio in Portland! Lars doesn't voice-track!! Live & local, baby!

Complaining about fat people in radio is like complaining about all the tall guys who play basketball. Give me a break.

Something else about talk shows that can't be said about music radio:
you can't buy this stuff on CD somewhere. Or, if you can buy something like "The Best of Lars" on CD, that's not your primary means of hearing it.
Oddly enough, being on Channel 12 wasn't how I started paying much attention to him or his TV/radio show... it was his guest appearances on the Bill Prescott Show.
I'll mention that I met Lars briefly once, when he was broadcasting live from Pioneer Courthouse Square for whatever reason. (I posted about it back then, and everyone here was like "what was the point?")
I bet Lars could still nail an impartial TV news anchor job while still doing his radio jobs if he had the chance. IIRC, it was KPTV that gave him the ultimatum to pick either TV or radio, and quit the other.

I don't agree with Lars Larson on nearly anything of a political nature. But in terms of his experience as a reporter for KPTV, he was top flight and Chris-Craft gave him wide latitude to show off his reporting skills.

As for an television news anchor playing the role of journalist and radio talk show host, it does happen, including the late Pete Wilson of KGO radio and television. Too, there is an anchor in Chicago that hosts a program on WGN radio. But you have to be mindful that some people will call into question a personality taking on both roles. Especially if they're advocating for political candidates or causes during an election cycle while on their radio program. It’s very easy to identify a talk show host with a candidate or a cause. And to attempt to divorce that relationship while anchoring a newscast might seem a bit complicated for some viewers. Maybe we should do away with journalist anchors and follow Britain’s lead and hire presenters to anchor the news?

In this country, I could most easily see it with a FOX station -- hiring a talk show host who moonlights as an anchor. It would seem to fit the Murdoch method of broadcasting.
