I believe K-Hits is airing "American Top 40, the 70s" on Sundays. However, there are some recorded old shows of "American Top 40" from both the 1970s and 1980s online at this website:

You can download or listen, but the most recent posting are more active than the older posting.

Also, I downloaded a classic "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40" countdown from 1987 (his show premiered in 1983).

Enjoy!!

I would love to hear some Early 90's Casey's Top 40 shows. Plus it would be fun to hear Casey Kasem talk about the song "gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg.

Far better than hearing KC talk about "Alone Again Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan again. Man, there were some crappy #1 hits in the 70's! :-)

I have the Gilbert O' Sullivan _Himself_ album, which includes "Alone Again Naturally." I like the hit single, but his Irish brogue gets to be a bit too much on the other tracks. Though the "woe is me" feel of "Alone Again Naturally" is a bit on the whiny side, I salute Mr. Sullivan for tackling the issue of depression and suicide in this song.

The old Casey shows are pretty cool. The 70's processing was quite a bit more compressed and I had forgotten how they used to really edit down some of the songs, sometimes only playing about 1 or 2 minutes of them. (Perhaps so Casey could get in more death dedications...if anyone has audio of that classic please post!)

Negativland did some great work with those Kasem-going-off-the-deep-end samples.

Google for "casey kasem" death dedication and you'll get numerous hits, some with creative video added.

Ya and the classic aural outake of Casey K "F wording" some production person for handing him a " Dead Dog dedication"...thats on the web and easy to find.

Dead Dogs even too much for Casey. I wonder if the dead canine dedication was " Shannon "...Henry Gross...

Oh , ya , I didnt know if you were talking about the dog dieing bit or what. They wouldnt let me in on that link from work.

I was just wondering what the record they planned on going IN TO was...I guess we will never know, I've heard that bit before , but its been almost 20 years ago I think...ha ha

Henry Gross ( 1976? ) had a one hit wonder ...Shannon.. about his old dog dieing and buried in the backyard. I wonder if it was the one they had cued up to play next. We might be able to figure it out, if we knew the date Casey's rant was recorded.

Well, the song he was coming out of was Loverboy "Working For The Weekend", a hit in early '82. He could have gone into Shannon, but you're right we'll probably never know.

I especially like how his rant starts pretty mildly, and then explodes. Then we he starts asking about some "pictures" he hasn't gotten yet, I'm on the floor!
