If it touts itself as "alternative", then why isn't it? I find that it's the same old American Establishment extensions in disguise. (today)There is nothing "different" about their programming and most certainly there was nothing less then the same old message when they originated. So why does the population buy into the ideals that they might offer something alternative?....perhaps the population isn't too connected to begin with? Or perhaps the age old marketing ploy: if you bring something to the public's attention enough times over and over and over again - it becomes real and true? Repeat something often enough, and it is true. There is nothing alternatively different or progressive about the highly corporatize consumption driven Air America.

You act like there's any real "alternative" voices anymore. The multi-national corporations took over control of most of the world in the mid to late 80s... the 90s and the 2000s have just been them tightening their grip. Anyone or any message that deviates from the "consume and be happy!" dogma that's forced down our throats daily is swiftly and quietly eliminated or at the very least laughed at and mocked to the point of irrelevency. It's really frightening when you realize how docile and "domesticated" we all have become to our corporate masters. Human civilizations exist in cycles, though, and this version of it is definately on the downswing.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Have you actually listened to a Progressive Talk station? It sounds like not.

Progressive Talk is an alternative to conservative talk. Anyone listening to a Progressive Talk station would get immediately the sharp contrast between the right-winger viewpoints of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and the left-wing viewpoints of Thom Hartmann, and Randi Rhodes. Hartmann and Rhodes differ sharply with the right-wingers on Iraq, the economy, foreign policy, constitutional rights, etc. How much more of a contrast do you need?

I thought some of you guys were capitalists? KPOJ is the first programming to make money on AM620 in a long, long time, after many failed experiments. Why on earth would Clear Channel want to switch back to oldies?

Could you define or give some examples of what would qualify as "alternative" programming in this context?

I don't think that Clear Channel could create a better oldies station than Radio Oregon 1010! They snoozed and they lost.

Well Andrew, one thing they all have in common is that predictable and expected "American Establishment" perspective - they're all a bunch of goofs not knowing what they speak of. Highly reflective of the disconnected and unaware culture which is American...this forced upon and social fabricated ideals of political identity is deadly for this pathetic culture.

Bababo, you are welcome to have any critique you wish about any talk radio show, believe they don't reflect the culture or know what they are talking about. But that's an entirely subjective opinion akin to asking, "Why doesn't chocolate taste good?" I happen to think you are dead wrong and you haven't presented anything other than your opinion to convince us otherwise.

There are a lot of extremely smart, clever people on Progressive Talk radio (e.g. Air America's Rachel Maddow). And to most people, there is a sharp distinction between the viewpoints on Progressive Talk and Conservative Talk. You haven't made any sort of case to the contrary besides "this is my opinion."

62kgw, I had no idea you were a socialist. Even most free market conservatives would agree that if Clear Channel makes more money with Thom Hartmann than with Elvis, they should put on Hartmann.

Andrew, Rachel Maddow is a whore for the commercial establishment. Nobody within the Air America system nor their affliates has the balls to really "air" their own within the VERY CORPORATE network. And Tom Hartmann is about as "Progressive" or an "Alternative Voice" as my ass...he's just a much a whore as all the others.

Hey, "Bababo," since it appears that you came on here to insult people rather than to have a discussion, could it be that there are some unresolved issues unrelated to Air America and broadcasting that are plaguing you? Maybe you need to check into rehab. Be sure to say hi to Amy and Britney while you're there.

From what I have read today, it kinda' looks like "Babao" must have an ax to grind with KBOO as well.

My best guess is (and this is merely a guess; I could be completely wrong for all I know) this user must be yet another ex-radio personality, producer or whomever, forced out of the biz by everyone's friend Otto Mayshun...........

I think Bababo has listened to way too much KRAP!

Oh, and Rachael Maddow is probably the smartest, most articulate woman to grace the dial in a LONG time, if all time.

When are they gonna put that woman on TV?

She DOES!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that. They share a number of mannerisms.

The best part is she has personality enough to share this brilliance with us in an entertaining and informative way.

I really meant her own show. If she builds it anywhere close to how well her radio program is done, it's a sure-fire home run, outta the park.

Could Bababo be Air America and KBOO's version of Jennifer Marlow? About as rude and obnoxious.

Andrew, I believe you are spot on with your responses.

Missing_kskd, Couldn't agree more, Rachel needs her own TV show.

I can't remember where, and it probably wasn't serious, but it was suggested that Rachael would be an excellent Press Secretary in the Obama Administration.

I agree.

they're there makes much more sense.

Rather redundant Inthemiddle, even rhrtorical, I already grasp what the American public is about...vacant of your beloved American Idol and that MSNBC dyke. Catatonic? In some thought provoking circles, the American character and civilization isn't considered terribly developed.
