KPAM started carrying the Laura Ingraham show yesterday 8-11 PM. This moved Neal Boortz to 11 PM - 1 AM and Phil Hendrie to 1 AM - 3 AM. From now on, I will be listening to Hendrie on KIRO.

NO WONDER I couldn't pick up Hendrie last night in the car when I was driving home from Eugene! I thought, "Wow, KPAM sure comes in crappy at night even 30 miles from Portland - some other station is bleeding in!" Actually I could get KIRO 30 miles south of Portland even better than I could get KPAM; I could barely hear it was a woman's voice, let alone Ingraham's.

Maybe KPAM could sign off at 8pm and come back on at 6am. It could save some money.

Try KPOJ starting at noon: everything is on tape the rest of the day!

What I want to know, who are the guys that tape delay the shows on KPOJ & KPAM?

Man that's the life! All you do is thread reels all day and all night! Oh sure, if a tape breaks, you have to know how to splice it back together but that's easy!

Are they really tape delaying? I thought everything went into the server and they play it out of the server these days. I thought KPOJ and KEX used Prophet systems and everything plays out of it. I have no idea what KPAM does.

Uh, yeah, people don't mean actual "tape" anymore; but "tape delay" is still an expression.

The last time I was 30 miles south of Portland at night, I was receiving a station from Price George, BC with almost no sign of KPAM.

There has to be something more appealing for evening listening than Laura Ingram. There whole post 8pm line-up seems like a waste of good air time. KEX seems to do well with less political fare after 4pm, maybe KPAM should follow suit.

Another thing, as a Beaver fan, I wish the KPAM website did a better job promoting Oregon State University athletics and other programs. Their website seems rather stale in that regard.

Lastly, KPAM writes on their website that they plan to go from 10,000 watts at night to 30,000 watts at night. Will that make a big difference?

The FCC website shows a CP to increase from 5000 to 15,000 watts nighttime.

Where on the KPAM website do you see anything about a power increase?

I was wrong about 10,000 to 30,000 watts. My mistake.

The information about a power increase is listed under "Important Broadcast Information" at the center bottom of the KPAM site.

Here's a map of the KPAM nighttime coverage area:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KPAM&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

Out in Hillsboro, the nighttime signal seems reasonably strong, although interference from co-channel stations can occasionally be heard.

I have a question regarding the delaying of these shows on server-based audio systems: Is the recording process completely automated? If so, how does the automation know where to insert the local spots?

I wonder why they have such a tight null to the NW toward Longview?

It appears that this null protects CFPR 860 in Prince Rupert, BC. See: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=54.28556,+-130.37444+(CFPR-AM)&om=1&ie=UTF8&ll=51.316881,-123.046875&spn=15.042996,30.058594&z=5&iwlo c=addr

For those asking about what KPAM does for automation, they are using ENCO (http://www.enco.com) with about 12 workstations and a server. Their boards are SAS and they do use delay on live shows.
